Is it worth it to shop around for home auto and business. I've had one small claim in 17 years with State Farm and they just went up on me $19 per month. Now 19 bucks isn't going to bankrupt me. But darn, why do the good folk have to pay for the screw ups of others?
So the question is. Is it good to shop around? Also, is it good to have just one insurance company for all?
Thanks for your help.

Yes my mom does every year and there can be quite a difference in premiums. I've had state farm since 1976 for my insurance company but there getting outrageous on premiums but they all are.it doesn't cost anything to make a call just make sure the coverage and deductible are the same so you can compare apples to apples.

One insurance for all is going to get you the best rate.

We saved about 20% when we switched from State Farm to Shelter.

For full disclosure, my wife is a licensed, just not in that part of the business.

If you go to an independent agent who has multiple companies to choose from you will do well.

My rates went up substantially a few months back so I went in to discuss it with them. They told me premiums were going up straight across the board due to increased building material costs, labor and automotive parts costs. As much as I hate to say it, I sort of see where they are coming from.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Just switched my home and auto from State Farm to Allstate. Allstate is about 40% cheaper.

Not if your house is destroyed or badly damaged.

Mine is $1800/year. $1000 deductible.

Home is valued at $180,000.

They may drop me, but I just deposited a $30,000 check today for recent hurricane damage to my home, outbuildings, and fences. They depreciated property $5000 and before the $1000 deductible...there was $36000 in damages.

It'll be 20 years at current rate for them to recoup that.

Without homeowners insurance you are taking a huge gamble unless you have enough $$ to rebuild/repair.

You can shop around, but homeowners/auto insurance has gone up exponentially the last year. It's hard keep up with what you can afford anymore. Thanks to...

Lol yeah right Let your house burn and say that. Or better let some one steal a vehicle and run through your house like punk did my parents. Stolen vehicle owner of auto is not responsible
Did I mention I got 30,000 for hail damage on my house and garage last year

Who pays if neighbors kid gets hurt on your property even if he trespassing?
Might want to change you thought process

after 30 years with state farm , they told me effective 11/1/2024 they were not renewing 2 of my 6 vehicles.

these are liability only vehicles

they paid out for 3 fairly minor claims in the last 5 years all 3 of them kids , 2 of the 3 were abut to fall off the 5 year list , they would not cover those any more even after appeals
it was one of the kids cars and my wife's expedition. they stated that they were Modernizing the policies
so as of today after 30 years I am no longer a State farm customer
I was just paying the bill , didn't want to look for new insurance
but
they drove me away as a customer and what I went to was very competitive it might even be saving a few dollars.

I guess with some luck my State Farm agents Daughter sells insurance as an independent broker so her company sold us coverage for 6 vehicles and the house and an umbrella liability.

so State farm you drove away a 30 year customer that never in 24 years of owning a house filed a single claim.
seems like you were way ahead in dollars collected for dollars paid out.

Thing about insurance company. They raked in billions in profits for decades. But let them have 2-3 years of major payouts and bam gone baby gone
