I got this griddle the other day and I can not see an marks on it other then a 10 where the handle hooks to the body on top. The handle is cut out rather then solid and the entire thigh is very light weight. It is 12 1/4" across and has a fire ring on the bottom. Any idea on the make?

that handle shape is going to be a great tell , I just haven't ever seen one like that before.

I bet that handle doesn't heat up as much with all that added surface area.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I did about fifteen minutes of searching last evening but came up with nothing even close to that handle configuration.

The heat ring means it was probably made prior to 1960 but Lodge and BSR had heat rings on their cast iron up into the 70's.

Eh...wot?

I have about a half hour into trying to find something with the same type handle and nothing close. It has a gate mark on the bottom too. The bottom is in pretty bad shape compared to the face. There could have been markings on the bottom at one time that you can not see now.

I actually found that pan, or a different size version of it, on Pinterest.

But I have never joined Pinterest and it’s only a picture, so I can’t get any other information on it.

There are actually several just like it on Pinterest.

Eh...wot?

I'm not a CI pro by no means but I'll give ya my best guess. It's actually a skillet griddle. A lot of CI is unmarked and things like the handle, heat rings, etc, tell the tale as to who made them.

Also some CI manufacturers would copy others, Wapak was well know for that. Then there are ones like yours that I call SMS, Southern mystery skillets. These can't be identified by the maker. So if I had to guess, I'd say 1870's to 80's. The gate mark is pre 1910'ish for sure. I have seen similar handles on Victor pans made by Griswold in that time period. Also I've heard that the Ellis foundry made handles like that as well but I don't know that for sure. Hope this helps.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Could possibly be an Ellis Foundry.

ADC Mine has no ring on the end and does not look like it ever did. Do you know who made that one?

That one is Ellis. Looks like Oh trap had better search results than me.

I could not find the maker either Lugnut, the guy has a lot of Canadian cast iron might be one of theirs,

He does have a facebook page and maybe able to answer on the maker

Very interesting cast iron collection

Oh trap that looks like it. Mine is a 10. Maybe someone will know the maker. The handle is molded, not cut too, from the looks of mine. Thanks ADC. I need to get mine cleaned up. I bought a chicken fryer, a skillet and two round griddles off an auction. That is one of the griddles. The other is a 9. It also has a gate mark and a raised F at 0600 on the back. The handle has a round thicker edge. The 10 is lighter weight then the 9. Both the fryer and skillet have heat rings, but no gate marks. No other marks that I can see, but they are pretty dirty right now too.

That first one (the 10) has piqued my interest let me know what you'd take for it if you decide to sell it sometime.

ADC, I have a new problem. Cast Iron cook ware. I am always on the watch for it. I do not know a lot about it, but I like it. My wife never once told me to stop buying traps, but she does cast iron. She cooks with it full time and has for 35 years, but we have a small kitchen and it is full. If I decide to sell I will let you know.

I understand. I just think it'd made an excellent pancake pan. Keep me in mind. Thanks.
