thanks those are the 2 peice weaver bases , I was looking at those as one option.
the front is into the barrel and the back into the receiver the receiver is very similar to a 10/22 but in steel
the screw holes that look like they should be the forward scope mount holes are used as the cartridge deflector to guide the round into the chamber for anyone wondering why it doesn't use those screws.
Thanks , 330

The .44 Rem mag Deerfield We have has a 2 piece mount on it. Sorry the picture is bsd...got cropped Not to knit pick Scott but just so you know, your rifle is a Ruger 44 Carbine, not a Deerfield. The deerfields were a much later production, have Ruger style scope bases milled into the receiver, detachable rotary magazine and were sort of a club. Like I said, it doesn't matter to me and you can call it "Deerfield" if you like. Personally, I prefer "Petunia" but that is just me.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Ruger might be the biggest US gun manufacturer
it doesn't mean they are always the prettiest or most refined.

Had a First run model. Had to jack each round out through action. Prerelease button! Only 240 grain lead in my area at the time pre "1965". It could make meat . FYI , a M1,30 carbine Jeep scabbard fit it nicely.... Tut
