So, this has me curious. Are pumpkins an actual draw to wildlife? Thinking if so I may file that away in my bag of trick for when I move to the lower 48.

Holler back if you have something of benefit to share on the subject.

Thanks Kieth. I did some research of the pumpkin on the interweb and much to my disbelief, animals actually gather for that garbage.

In my defense, how was I to know?

Most all wildlife will eat pumpkins. Deer really like cracked open pumpkins. Not so much when they are firm and fresh.

Many mammals and birds will eat pumpkin and some reptiles do.

Wonder if pumpkins would be of interest to wolves….
Does anyone here have experience with that? Surely some of you Canadians would know.

Literal millions of pumpkins are dumped this time of year and they don't last long if there's wild or domestic animals around.

I planted pumpkins in my plot this year to see what they'd do. They hammered them while still green, left the orange ones until the green were gone.

I don't like eating pumpkins. Only the seeds.

Okay, convinced. Going to try pumpkin as a bait dump, for wolves. Never been done before, to my knowledge.

Something new and maybe fun to mess with this season.

I won’t eat anything from squarsh. May be okay for you folks down south, but it is absolute garbage by the time it arrives here.

Don't eat the seeds! Grandma always said that is where babies came from.

I have nothing clever to put here.

That makes SO much sense now! Grandpa always told me to tell women I had a headache.

I know the fox like to travel on the tractor lanes through the pumpkin fields on one of the farms I trap.

[Linked Image]

In this picture, the pumpkins are all but rotted down and the weeds are flattened but the lane is still active. The farmer holds off plowing this all under just so I can trap fox in here.

Eh...wot?
