Anybody else deal with that? PO box is free so there is that. Every year or so I have to fill out a USPS form to keep it free. They have my physical address on file. You would think they are already aware that home delivery is still not an option.

You cant apply for a CC online if your mailing address is a PO box. Can only do it by phone. New law after the banking bailouts. When your billing address is a PO box you have to watch if your getting a fedx or ups parcel because with a PO box it goes into never never land. People that answer phone are pretty much a waste of time. Easier to request a refund and let the shipper deal with the Iranian phone people. Some places just dont get that your billing address and your shipping address are two different things.

Before USPS went to all computers, back when the post office was fast and accurate, anything sent to your street address via USPS still got to the post office and put in your box or if too big held till it was picked up. Now it just gets sent back. UPS and FEDX wont deliver to the post office anymore if your PO box is used. They are fine with leaving a parcel out on the porch or in the yard but I guess its to much effort to drop it at the post office. Assuming the post office is open. Closed now except for 830 to 12.

I feel your pain. Since a car bridge across the river was taken down in the 70s, my town, 1 mile away, does not deliver mail on this side of the river. Mail has to go through a town 7 miles away. Anyone that looks up our address and uses our town gets letter returned. I can’t get them to forward. Except when it looks official, then sometimes they forward. Very confusing getting DL since both towns are on different county’s. Physical address is exactly the same as mailing except town and zip. PITA!

I don't know which word best describes them, pitiful or pathetic. Maybe both. The left hand never knows what the right hand is doing.

I love how they quote the law and rules at you like their hands are tied. Then throw it all out the window when it suits them.

Per my above post:
Had tons of mail returned as “no such address” when addressed to actual address. They told me it was illegal to forward. Then a letter from the town about an easement they were trying to get was delivered. Someone at PO just drew a line through wrong town and zip and wrote in other town and stamped it “foreword”. Exactly what I asked them to do and was told it was illegal.

We have the same situation won't deliver to house however only free p.o. box is to small for more than 2 days of junk mail. What we do is put street address followed by po box number, as recommended by postal employee

Even do it this way for packages we know are shipping FEDEX or UPS.

Too bad to hear people with problems. Here it can have just about anything written on it and it comes to my house. Wrong address whether it be town or street and as long as my name or even nickname is on it they deliver it. Guess being in a rural towne my whole life helps. Post office will even call you if they got your number and help you out if you do have a question or issue.

Simple fix ! You use your PO address on typical address line. You write your physical address on the next line !

What does that have to do with no home mail delivery available? It does not exist. In other words mail is not delivered to residence. Ever. They dont do it. There is no home delivery. Its not available.

Try explaining that to a Pakistani phone answerer. Even Americans dont get it.

Free PO Box is quite common in small towns . Those living inside city limits get the same arrangement here.

A PO Box at no charge , in lieu of home delivery. Probably been that way for 25 years here locally !

I delivered rural mail under contract. If you gave me something as simple as a Thank You card at Christmas you received anything with even a partial address. Why wouldn’t I accommodate you !

If you constantly whined about your mail service, a torn magazine, a wet envelope , or a late package out of my control , I was plenty happy to send anything back with a poor or incomplete address.

The road south of the house flooded, and they stopped delivering mail to the house for several years. I was told I could move my mail box six miles up the road to the edge of town or get a PO box. I had to pay $60 a year for the box since I chose to have it rather then my mail box six miles away just out of town. I can not say I have much good about the post office here, and it is not any better since the computer sorting took over.

I'm pretty sure I know what their right hand is doing.....!

my parents had a very similar experience with the post office

apparently at some point they found a special breed of jerk to be post masters

where I live we still have a good post master , now she is right out of the 80s big hair and really likes that eye makeup , but she does a good job as does all her staff.

anyway my parents had a po box and the post master told my dad outright , he gets paid 2x if he sends back any package that is guaranteed return post.
so if it sat more than a couple hours at the post office it was on the evening truck away again.
my dad was paying for the po box it wasn't even a free one.


anyway whenever one service is bad enough someone comes up with a solution
a guy retiring form the navy and his wife started up a Mailbox store next door to the grocery store in town. they are there 6 days a week.
they will do mail forwarding , my parents are snow birds now , fish Lake Michigan and Wisconsin lakes in the summer and the FL gulf coast and inter coastal in the winter.
forwarding with USPS was costing them a bunch to get junk mail mostly.

it actually saved money to go with the box at the mailbox store and they will accept every carrier UPS , USPS, Fedex , speedee , rps as long as they deliver 8am to 6pm they will accept.

Dad can't lift much so they will put it in the back of his truck if needed.

when they are down in FL and something like a catalog comes they will text a picture of it and ask forward or not
with most of their bills on auto pay or scheduled payments they get almost no mail any more so about once a month while they are gone they actually need stuff sent. which means even paying the service it costs them less a month than it used to in forwarding with USPS

they made 100% of their billing and shipping addresses be the same address it looks like an apartment number
their name , the address of the mailbox service and #5 which is technically box 5 but no one else knows it isn't apartment 5.

Same situation in my home town. I put both street and po box on most everything. Amazon refuses to ship a lot of stuff because it has a PO box in the address. Some folks put street address only on correspondence and post office gets testy about no po box on it. In 2000 the census forms came with all street addresses only and postmaster threw them out.

0ne ounce of skunk juice would fit in a po box. Pick up at your convenice.

As far as the post office is concerned my address doesn't exist. They looked it up and told my wife that. Got a PO box which has tripled in price the last 9 years. Biggest problem is UPS does a thing called UPS express which gives the package to the PO for final delivery and the PO WILL NOT deliver it. UPS says hey we delivered it, and the PO had no idea what happened to it. Never can tell when ordering if shipping is regular UPS or UPS express. One of the reasons I avoid UPS if at all possible. If I can't avoid it I ship it to my daughters house.

My address didnt exist when GPS first started getting popular. UPS and FEDX would deliver my stuff to the the opposite side of town. Guy would call me and I would go get it. Phone calls directions etc didnt work. No clue how somebody gets a delivery job and cant figure out the sun comes up in the east.

Guy on trap shed has some logwood for sale. I PMed him and said I would take it. He read the PM. No response. Still listed. I guess cause I gave my address as a PO box. Most folks just dont get it that for many a PO box is the only USPS address you get.

I have the also been denied rural delivery, and receive a free post office box. USPS claims 2 dangerous left hand turns for rural route delivery . 1/4 of a mile up the road they provide rural delivery to my neighbor with 2 left hand turns. It’s a personality conflict , my wife is a former Postmaster, she locked horns with the postmaster that our rural route comes from, so he is the one who denied us rr delivery. Both are now retired, but we have still been unable to get rr delivery, very hard to make change once implemented. Typical with any government agency. It’s a pain in the butt, have to drive 3 miles to pick up my mail.

I would talk to whoever assigns 911 address. Post Office doesn’t assign an address they only deliver to them, it is typically a function of zoning !
