Growing up we were pretty low income. Both parents hard working. But dad was a Navy man and I had six siblings so mom was limited in hours she could work. Parents cut every corner they could in the grocery store. However, growing up never tasted any ketchup, at home, other than Heinz. lol It is literally amazing to me we had ketchup let alone Heinz. What is yours?

We were poor when I was born up to when I was a small child, wealthy by the time I was in high school and very wealthy later on, thanks to my dad's smart and hard work. I remember not having enough to eat when I was little. We could have gotten public assistance, but didn't because of pride.
We always have used Heinz too.
Keith Dad would not allow us on public assistance as well. We made it without it.

When I was going to college, I rented a house from a good old black man - $40 a month. He had a big garden, truck patch, and he let me eat out of it. He made home made ketchup. Used to catch fish and keep them in an aquarium to eat later. It would freeze to bottom in winter. No heat or air in house - except elec space heater. No water in winter because pipes would freeze and break. Had a chair out back in woods with a hole cut in seat for a crapper and hope you remembered where u left it. Took showers at school In winter. Boiled water on propane stove. Made some money trapping and commercial fishing. Ate a fair bit of catfish, beaver and nutria. Ate fresh roadkill a few times. Didnt really seem that bad. Things like that dont seem to bother you as much when you are twenty years old as they do when you are 70. Cant believe I found someone to marry me, living like that. Been married 46 years now. When we got married, we lived off catfish - like Forrest Gump with shrimp - but catfish - fried, baked, grilled, blackened. That catfish stew finished us off. My wife was pregnant at the time, and my 45 year old son loves fish - but to this day, wont eat catfish.
