Does GFW even really buy put up coon? Most of the videos I've seen, people are mostly throwing unfrozen, in the grease, skins up through the window.
I'm not a fast skinner or flesher/boarder but I take pride at most of my finished coon. GFW used to have a couple of stops in se SD but I haven't really connected with them. Before 'vid, they had a "partner" company called "Colt Fur" (I think that was the name that did a lot of eastern SD stops), but I don't think those guys ever wanted to pay more than $10 for a coon skin, even put up. I sent what I had to auction.

I used to be able to pay for all my trapping fuel with coon at $10 avg while live marketing coyotes and fox.
100 to 150 coon/season and not targeting them at all.
Easy to skin...easy to scrape and board....wipe em down once in a couple days..take em off boards in a 5 days.

6 buck average is what he means lol I think that means $3 here. I'll pass 6.00 average without the outs. PA coon probably closer to 2.00. Im out LOL.

Id say let the market dry up and maybe make some money in a couple years. Best advice.

What does he mean by "outs"...?
What were the prices from last year, using say a 3-4 XL top grade?
I wonder why he never mentions eastern ND and SD, we often have some decent "northern heavies". I wonder if he (they) still use "Colt Fur" (or whatever they are or were called) as their Dakota subsidiary)?? Could it be the Dakotas aren't in his pickup area.

I averaged $6 last year for green skinned coon. Easiest money in the fur check for me. We have a ton of them around here, and easy to shuck em and stack em up. Remember in Covid when we couldn’t sell any? I’ll take $6 for coon all day long. What if it doesn’t improve for years? I’m no spring chicken any more I’ll go have fun now thank you. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

A few years of not trapping or selling coons in North America is what will bring prices up. Notice he gives no basis price and what that tells me is yeah they have a market for the best section of coons in America and the biggest an best colors but the average string Im betting put up will get you less than 10 bucks and they will double there money on the buy because they all ready have them contracted. Id say let the market dry up and maybe make some money in a couple years. No, it won't. The coon harvest is a small fraction of what it used to be already, and that hasn't helped. The market is already dried up and has been for a number of years. You can't just create demand for something that doesn't have much demand by withholding it.

"The market is slow right now, but we need raccoon, all sizes, but at the same prices as last year." LOL
My post has been interrupted to sell you some Groenewold Parkas...(music plays, nice 100 year history pictures)
OK, back to my post...
The beaver market is down from last year...but we need green beaver; fold them like a taco (you're making me hungry).
In today's fur market, we're fortunate we still have an outlet to sell, but not one positive thing from their video.

Fairly close to last year maybe a little off. LOL Cost of living hasn’t changed either? Good deal for him as he’s actually buying cheaper every year at the same price Whole thing is getting beyond frustrating.
