I am thinking I want to build a budget AR . Where are you guys buying your parts or kits? I don't shoot a ton of rounds but a few hundred a year.

What are you gonna use it for ? Shooting style , ranges , ect
Any chance your gonna use it for life or death stuff ?
What caliber you looking at building ?
Do you have any tools to build AR's ?
Accuracy requirements?

Honestly now days I feel it's hard getting bad parts for a plinking build or something you just gonna use to hunt with.

But I've spent probably a good $1500-$2000 at AR-15 discounts..com and I e yet to have any complaints.

Get on there email list along with PSA both have so many deals so frequently it's crazy. And I agree with many when they say just get a complete lower from PSA. They have a different one on slade from $99-150 ever few days . I buy one every few months just to have.

Budget.

Full rifles can be had in the $400-600 range pretty easily.

Can a guy even build one for that?

Tons of them for that and less new and used in every gun shop I've been in quite some time.

$500 not too bad
$400....need to have some spare parts already or just luck up and find some good deals . Or do what I do and swap BCG's a lot lol

I built mine about 10 years ago for $300.

I bought an upper (old M-16 training weapon)

Then I bought a lower from another place.

I think I got the upper from Sarver or something like that.

You'll have to get the lower shipped to an FFL.

One nice thing about buying the old trainer was it had a chrome lined barrel.

Every 500 rounds I go over the gun with a fine toothed comb and push all the pins and screws into proper position.

Then once you have the gun built you can start adding all the extras and upgrading things.

With stuff like this available, I don’t know why anyone would build a “budget” rifle.

Now building a more upper end rig I can see.

I bought an Andro-Corp rifle off midway a couple years ago for less than $500 shipped and transferred. (Think it was $480 when the dust settled)


It don’t like cheap ammo real well, but shoots better ammo well enough. Im at ~2500 rounds through it with nary a hiccup.

I just like doing it honestly can put all the pieces in just the way I want ... Idk it's one of those things like how some people want to change their own oil or breaks....when it's less of a headache and cheaper to just take it to a shop .

....also just like dog walking people with rigs 2x the cost of mine

Rags whatever you decide get a good trigger.
