The wearing of hunter orange is the deciding factor! Hahaha.
Of course legal and ethical aren't always the same!

The only thing in this post that concerns me are the people conflating legal and ethical.

It’s opportunity and you capitalized on it good deal

I fail to see the difference between shooting it out the porch window or out of a blind overlooking a trail, food plot or bait pile.

I’ll catch grief, but I’d say it’s ‘harvesting’ as stated, versus ‘hunting’.

I’ve got zero issues with it. I’ll often jump shoot ducks / geese of the beaver swamp beside my house. I can watch them pitch down from my living room. I’d also consider that harvesting versus hunting.

Lol I've ruined many a screen because I raised the window and shot through it. Lol BTW I've learned that it don't just make a small hole in the screen it rips top to bottom! And if it offended anyone they sure don't need to be back on my property. And deer hunting takes no special attire dress for comfort nothing else

No set standard for ethics, each individual or group makes their own, and quite different from law. As far as for me some things that are illegal are ethical, some things that are legal to me seem unethical. If your totally hunting for meat I would rather take a super shot so as not to damage meat than a sloppy shot. In some cases I have put down a crippled animal that in my opinion will not recover rather than to let it suffer even out of season. There is no law anywhere that I am aware of as to how far you can shoot but taking 800 yard shots to me are not ethical. As far as ethics I have seen some real hypocrite's talk ethics and then violate their own set standards. The ethics you set and or talk are only as good as you practice them when no one is looking.

Intentions always play a factor. You had a special opportunity and you didn’t have to work hard for it, and that is great. No one knows your intentions but you. And you didn’t break any laws. I think sometimes we think if we didn’t do things the hard way, then it doesn’t count. Think of it as a reward.
Once we pulled into our hunting area, got out and walked ten feet and a deer came out and Chuckie shot. Hunt over. It almost didn’t feel “right”. But there was nothing wrong with how it happened

Ethical and legal are two different things.

In my opinion what you did was ethical. I wouldn't compare it to shooting ducks on the water or ground-swatting game birds like Swamp Wolf did.

Eh...wot?

There are plenty of things that are legal and also not ethical as well as illegal things that are ethical. Legal clarification has not a thing to do with ethics.

35 yrs ago I was in school w/a family in tow ~ my late wife's cousin had deer in his silage (February) so he shot a couple of the does
I went out to help him cut them up and he gave me the meat ~ was it poaching? I was feeding my family.
didn't make a dent in the whitetail population

Opportunity meat, as long as it is used I have no problem with it.
