Question. Swamp with houses/huts 10 yards from the road and farther. 2 steps from the road up to your crotch in muck. how to trap them. Boat is the only option I'm coming up with which I'm not going to do, maybe some type of float. There is a bunch there just can't get to them. Any suggestions. Thanks

Floats are one option to try,but first I would look for feedbeds, dens, and runs along the shore. If the swamp drains out somewhere you have access to, blind sets should work, especially if there is a culvert or bridge. You could wait for ice or borrow a boat or canoe. Rats will travel farther in their daily movements than you might think.

Open water I’d jump in a skiff and set the salads.

If it freezes hard you come walk up on em.

I would use a canoe if available. Even if you could wade the mud, I have found that wading around in the mud around structures ruins the runs and other travel ways. My catch increased a lot with staying on top of the water.

I have found a float tube handy in some situations. The big sized Otter sled works good too but they are tippy.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I pulled beaver sets last WINTER out of the Otter sled. I pushed myself out on the ice with my chisel and fed rope out as I went along. When I was finished I pulled myself back to shore using the rope. Wearing a life jacket in the water, on the ice in December in a SLED was sketchy at best. I was sure I was going to drown.

thanks for the options. Hobbie u crazy. hope u don't use them, like the guy said suction trying to pull u leg foot out. not good. you would see a pair of waders in the muck and wonder where the guy is. its bad. ice, or boat of some kind is i guess my only option. holes that come to the bank are to far out in the muck. OK thanks guys just trying to get them....
