Anyone have any experience with the Lacrosse burly foam insulation vs the 800 Thinsulate boot? I want warm boots for trapping in the snow and cold. I have the Grange boots that have lasted a good while but there just not made to keep your feet warm. Thanks.

Im on my 4th or 5th pair of Burly foam originals in around 16 years. With a thick pair of wool socks, Im good down to pretty cold. Probably somewhere around 0 i suppose. My feet do get cold when temps get in the negatives even with good socks if Im just sitting still. Im not sure why I havent switched to a warmer pair, maybe next pair.

Not cheap, but these will work, I guarantee.

When considering options for warm boots, many people find that Thinsulate is often regarded as a more suitable choice for extremely cold weather due to its excellent insulation properties, especially in wet conditions. On the other hand, Burly Foam can be a great option for milder cold conditions, providing a comfortable level of warmth along with additional cushioning.

Here are some key differences:

**Insulation Level:**
Thinsulate typically offers a significantly higher degree of warmth compared to an equivalent amount of Burly Foam, making it particularly effective for very cold environments.

**Moisture Performance:**
Thinsulate maintains its insulating abilities even when wet, which can be especially beneficial in snowy or damp conditions. In contrast, Burly Foam may experience a reduction in effectiveness if it becomes wet.

**Comfort:**
Burly Foam tends to deliver a softer, more cushioned feel, which might be a priority for those who value comfort and do not require the highest level of cold protection.

**When to Consider Burly Foam:**
- For mild winter conditions
- For activities involving moderate movement, where high insulation might lead to overheating
- If you prefer a comfortable, cushioned insole

**When to Consider Thinsulate:**
- For severe cold weather
- For activities involving extended periods of sitting still in cold conditions
- In situations where you anticipate exposure to wet snow or moisture

I hope this helps you in making a more informed choice!

Another thing to think about is cost. You can get the foam ones on black Friday for around 75 bucks. I think you’ll be into thinsulate boots for nearly twice that.

I wear insulated Xtra tuff boots unless it's colder than -10 or so, and they do great. Not sure what brand insulation is in them, but they're a good boot for the money

Do you think the new bunny boots are as warm as the old ones?

I’m looking for rubber boots so I think I’m leaning toward the foam insulation with heavy wool socks. I think me feet will stay warmer but not sweat to much while walking to check traps. If we ever get our cold winters back I’ll have to check out those bunny boots. I bet they are warm.

Xtra tuffs are a rubber boot. I haven't used the new bunny boots yet, I have a couple sets of the old ones, and they're always on Craigslist and marketplace around here, so I just pick them up for $50 or $60 a pair used when I find them in my size, I haven't been able to justify the drive to Anchorage or the $400 for a new pair. For anything other than the coldest days, Xtra tuff rubber boots are great.
