I have specific need to extend WiFi access about 80 acres. I have the ability to install antenna at the house and line of sight about 1500-1600 feet to my tower with solar power. Then I need to pick up wireless devices and extend another approx 1500 feet. Been reading a lot of farm equipment reviews, but nothing I have confidence in. Anyone set up a farm or ranch?

I have a stable wifi connection 1500 feet over an ag field. It has line of sight.

I have not pushed a lot of data through it, because I just have a cell phone providing internet access for the property. For game cams I'm using 4k security cameras that use AI to identify people/vehicle/animal and send alerts. I can watch live video & replay old video from home. That's all I'm trying to do with it right now and it works well for that. I'm pretty sure the 3-4 mbps cell is the slow link, not the wifi.

I'll gather up some pictures. What questions do you have?

I have one of these at each end, which says it is "currently unavailable". I think its the the same as this one, but with different antennas.

Here's some more details and pictures

IIRC you're limited to 1 watt power on wifi. You need a device that puts out 1 watt. Antenna design determines if its broadcasting signal in all direction (like you'd want in your house), or focused in a single direction for longer distance. I swap the antennas with these highly directional yagi style antennas..

Here's what the property looks like:

There are 3 devices connecting to the garage's wifi:
Its right at 1500 feet from the garage to the blind with those wavlink devices at each end, and the antennas swapped for yagis.
Its around 1200 feet from the garage to the reolink camera that has omnidirectional antennas.
Its around 650 feet from the garage to the cheap camera that has omnidirectional antennas,

The two cameras aren't always line of sight. There's tall grass, branches & leaves that obstruct a little sometimes. I had to trim some branches to get the cheap camera working well.

The antenna bracket at the garage came loose and tipped down so it was pointing at the ground at a 45 degree angle. The connection to the blind still worked well, but the reolink and cheap camera quit working. That gives you a sense of how stable the various connections are.

What brand/model of equipment? Besides the companies website reviews, I can’t find any real users. Hate to put all the money out for epic failure.

I have devices that require wireless Ethernet. Don’t care much about internet, it’s just a bonus when I plug it into my server

Blue circle to north is my network server. Lower circle is a tower I have with solar. That is the primary link I need

that's the state I was in a couple years ago. I'm cheap so I started with some lower power access points that were a waste of $ for my situation.

I'm using wavlink dual antenna 2.4 ghz access points. The antennas are removable, so I get yagi style antennas on ebay.
I've not tried 5ghz because higher frequencies have an inherantly shorter range. So I'm only attempting 2.4ghz.

I saw a review where someone was using them for internet access at an RV park, and complained they only last 2 years. The reviewer was suspecting the rubber seals on the antenna connection ports fail, letting water inside the unit. I don't know if that's correct or not, but the yagi antennas I get have about a 3 foot cord on them. So I can put the access point inside my building with the antenna mounted outside. I'm approaching the 2 year mark, so I can't tell you yet if mounting them inside is helpful or not. But after reading that review, getting the unit itself inside and the antenna outside seemed like a very good thing to do.

Some reviewers compain about wavlink customer support. I'm satisfied with it. On any cheap overseas electronics, if they'll respond within 24 hours and eventually get me a resolution, I consider that good enough. Twice I've contacted their customer support. Once was because I tried using another vendor's POE power supply and fried the wavlink. After answering their questions, they sent me a new unit for free. The other time I contacted their customer support was because I couldn't get it working in a specific mode. In my blind I wanted the wavlink to connect to the garage's wifi AND extend the network under another ssid, with no router/nat/dhcp running on the wavlink at the blind. I suspect that's the least common mode for people to configure it in, but the manual said it would do it, so I tried. It wouldn't work following the instructions in the manual. They sent me a special build of the firmware and it worked.

So my experience with wavlink has been favorable. I'm a little surprised to see so many bad reviews on them. Maybe its because people buy this type of equipment to solve hard networking problems, and nothing on the market will make those hard problems trivial.

I'm glad to help! I don't know much about trapping. I'm hanging around here to take advantage of the wealth of info you guys share here. So its nice to be able to help out on a topic I'm familiar with.

I have the WiseEye DC-2 Cam at over 2000 feet from my house. No additional wi-fi equipment, no issues, uses 12 AA batteries which have lasted over 1 month so far. Sends photos & videos to my phone and computer with the intervals I choose. No complaints. :-)
