Would like to know also. I have some old straw square bales I want to use for this.

I’ve used the hay set the last month in a hay field where it would be natural to see, out of 5 hay sets I took 6 coyotes, 4 skunks and 2 raccoons. The hay field is very clay heavy making sifting dirt a pain, I pound out a trap bed and then cut small 1/2” pieces of hay as the trap covering.

I’m not sold on the set however, I observed a fox one day investigating bean chaff piles where the turn was made with equipment. She urinated on 3 piles before she made her way out of that field. There must be something to it.

I have used the set on one of the farms I trapped because the ground was very good for dirt holes. Was more of a flat set than what some construct as a hay set.

You’ll have to find answer yourself unless an experienced local can tell you. Be differences in how it’s worked between every area

It doesn't really need to look natural, mine sure didn't. They are used to finding rodents in piles of anything that provides cover for mice. That is why I used mouse bait, it was probably muskrat meat from a supplier. The coyote gland lure makes them think another coyote has been there and when they are nosing around the straw checking it out, snap! What I think was cool with the longsprings, is no bedding, pan cover, salt or antifreeze, and it will fire. Jaws big enough to work through the straw. I just shook straw over the traps to cover them, nothing else.
