Doses anyone trap cougars. If so what sets do you use, exposed trap or buried, and how do you anchor them. And also what scents do they like.

If you've got a six pack, that really helps.

Not on purpose. Sometimes it just happens. Held these two in a #3 bridger 4 coil with a 3/16 earth anchor. Set some bobcat traps in cougar country and you'll eventually connect.

That's gotta be pretty tense knowing that if he breaks lose, you could easily be ripped to shreds. Somehow catching possums doesn't have the same effect.

I typically catch one a year in MB 650s. I always bury traps and double stake. We can’t legally target them here. Also had them mess up cage traps set for bobcats. They like Fatcat, Grahams cat lure, Canadian River chunk bait and good predator bait.

I don't think I have a tote big enough to release one of those.

I have caught several, about any cat set and you will eventually get one. I bury all my traps, dirt holes and walk thru sets mostly. I have anchored with 10 foot cable wrapped around a tree, and earth anchors both. I do use shock springs. Now to target them I’m only allowed after a livestock kill, I use the livestock killed as bait. Wish we had a sport season on them. One of the most impressive animals I have caught.

They will blow up a cubby set for bobcats.

There is a member here from eastern Montana who gets them in walk thru sets he puts out for bobcats. I believe he runs mostly #4 long springs. He does not go overboard on burying the traps. He runs mostly drags.
When he does happen to catch one it’s a call to fish and game to help with the release. It’s not a one man job.
Biggest of cautions is if you catch a younger one, no matter the trap size, assume momma is very close.

These things I’ve learned from him.

They do choke down like bobcats but it is a job. You should move them out of the catch circle or they don’t run right off. This has been posted on here before, every time I see these kids they still remember that day.

No I don't I only trap water animals but have friends that do and have hounds. I get a lot of pictures from them so nothing to help you but to add a picture.

I wish it was legal here. Every time the trappers try to make it so the houndsmen throw a giant tantrum and get it tanked.
