People now days, just don't have any idea how the world runs/works! They're so far removed from actual life, they are kind of blind to everything. They have no idea what life is about, it's all reality TV and mindless games for them any more. They have food, warmth, shelter, and a government that tells them not to worry, the government will take care of them! People are becoming opossums, and just play dead to real life any more. The facts are , when people become too secure in life, the more insecure/aware they become.
We have met the enemy and the enemy is us!

Hard time create strong men. Strong men create good times. The cycle just repeats.

Everything I trap is food.It is food whether I trap it or dont trap it. Some food for me and some back to the food chain on the trapline to increase the carrying capacity of the land so I can harvest more animals next year, and make fur clothing to make money. Nobody I know traps for only one reason for crying out loud.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I would have liked to see another category. 'For cultural traditions" One of the worst arguments for trapping imo Our nation was essentially created for furs, that's what Europeans initially wanted in seeking new land, gold and fur. Not to mention a lot of the cities that exist today started as fur trading rendezvous. Trapping is also a very important part of many indigenous cultures. There are many other reasons to trap, most of them more scientifically important than cultural tradition, but it's still an important reason

Cultural reasons are important to us. Zero value to most unfortunately.

Cultural reasons are important to us. Zero value to most unfortunately. I thought this for some time however my son started dating a girl with a very liberal family. There was a discussion about going to dinner with her family and the discussion was had regarding the “no zones” and I asked about trapping. My son had already told them about my “hobby” and their response was along the lines of “they were glad to hear somebody still knows how to do it.” That isn’t an “I’m all for people keeping their culture but I think it’s pretty close.

When I meet someone, I decide in the first 30 seconds wether this individual would have survived 125 years ago, or their existence is due to our padded safety net world. If it's the latter I ignore them entirely, as they have nothing to say that's going to be of any value to me I do this exact same thing. Call it judgemental, but I can’t level with somebody who falls into the latter category. Honestly, I’m not sure I even know how to have a conversation with them. Bothers me that “for recreation” is the least approved. Seems that less and less care to get their hands dirty, go get fresh air and sweat a little, enjoy nature for what it is.

To qualify as a Subsistence user in AK you have to have a Curtomery and Traditional use finding. How does subsistence rate?
