Paul is a really good guy. I'd trust what he's doing, it probably works If I recall, he starts with urine at the base and works the way up the rub with the remainder lures and stopping with the last lure at the estimated bobcats shoulder height.

A single lure will catch them but cats can be fickle. Sometimes they will just walk right past a good set. So I like to give them visuals as well as multiple scents upping the odds that something will trip their trigger. I often use a rub lure (Bob Jameson's Sierra Mist or Dobbins Backbreaker work well) as well as a gland lure, a food lure and a skunky lure (up high). I'll use flags, polyfill, feathers or droppings to appeal visually. Curiosity kills the cats.
United we stand.

I put my call lure about head high, and use two other lures. One is a gland and the other is some type of curiosity lure (caster, mink gland, catnip, silvervine, anything that's different from the gland. I put one about bobcat head hight on one side of the trap, and another on the other side. Just far enough that the cat can't reach the other without going through the set. I'll use a spray of urine once a week to freshen it up. Cats are finky, but aren't to picky.
I wouldn't get caught up in the details. Dont over think it. If a lure is to high or two low, if your using mink gland or caster, it won't make a difference. Just make sure they have to go through the set to check out the lures.
If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

… Lefty is partial to rub sets … I just use them every now and then … one rub lure head high on post… gland lure in trash pile on the other side
Insert profound nonsense here

How high do you put the skunky lue on a rub set?
High enough it doesn't get in the cats fur when caught nor on me when tending the set.

*** Here's something to consider . . .
How many of you have ever watched a cat, any cat, actually rub a set, that another cat has scent marked ? Now I say any cat, which would cover a house cat, (domestic or feral, I suppose ) , but there are enough videos out there, if you know where to look, of wild cats scent marking and 'chin rubbing' a scent post, left by another cat of the same species.
Many studies have been done on Snow Leopards, Cougar , Canadian Lynx and other wild cats with the use of trail cams, where the behavior is actually recorded on film. There's no mistaking how a cat reacts when you're watching it . A cat is a cat, is a cat . . .but for the most part, our main concern is bobcats and bobcat behavior.
Tracy Truman a western trapper wrote an article on bobcat glands and how cats use and react to them that was the most extensive I've seen in print. If you can find that article, ( I believe in Trapper's Post ) read it, then re-read it . . . then read it again.
When the Alaskans or Canadians do a lynx survey to collect hair samples, how many of you can tell me the two items they use ? Anyone ? It's not commercial lure !
I am in no way saying what is shown or done by various trappers is right or wrong. I'm just asking you to take time to view the evidence and make your own conclusion.
The best one to teach you how to trap a cat . . .is a cat !

For me personally, two different scents at most cat sets, three at some, and urine at a few as icing. Seems to work for me. Nice mixed catch
