My wife bought a glass top electric range 8-10 years ago. One burner you can run the entire coil or just the center. It started not turn off when it gets up to heat. You put it on simmer and it is all the way up. I take it that it is a thermostat not working. Can you get a new thermostat, a new single coil with a new thermostat, or do you have to replace the entire top.

Don't drop an iron skillet on it like my wife did.
Goodness that thing shattered like a plate glass window.

Id haul it to the dump and get a gas range. That would work if I had natural gas. I could get a propane stove now that I have a propane furnace. But I hate using 1500 gallons of propane a year. Thanks uplandpointer Swamp if you drop a cast iron skillet on someone head that could be bad too.

Id haul it to the dump and get a gas range. Good advice right there . You got your money out of it... It's time to have a real stove..(Gas) My 100 gallon tank..for the stove only...lasts me 2 years. And we cook ..bake ..a lot.. Then you can cook with the best cookware out there...CAST IRON

I would think the controller is suspect. Same control knob adjusts heat for both inside and outside burner.
I have a glass top and evidently my wife is quite as clumsy as some others.
It’s a lazy man who can’t find his wife a second job !

There is a infinite switch in the knob switch. I found a short you tube video. You can replace the elements on a glass top individually. I have done one before. Find a good appliance shop, they will have burners and should be able to get switches or order online. Dakota tv and appliance in grand forks is good to order parts from if you don't have one nearby. stove repair Finally got the link to work

There is eight cast iron fry pans in the kitchen. I just counted.
