thinking about this from the communications side , this is what I do , and why most of the facilities I work with have a codes system it keeps it short and clear and it is repeated 3 times over the PA
unfortunately people yell into the PA and this makes it harder to hear because the microphone clips the audio when it gets over driven.
we also have the the international phonetic alphabet for a reason , it is carefully selected words to not sound like anything else over the radio
Alfa , Bravo , Charlie , Delta , Echo , Foxtrot
also called the NATO phonetic alphabet because beside pilots world wide other nations might have their own but all the friendlies use this one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabetI am also a believer in radios , class rooms should have radios , each teacher assigned one.
as others pointed out not a new issue , what is sad is that we haven't been asking how can we be prepared for it better over and over and constantly training it.
an AAR after action report after every event with a serious talk what went well , what went wrong where do we see the deficiencies.
I get it teachers are busy and not tactical minded , that is where we need local resources in LE or other EM to get involved with the conversation.
in 2018 we did a very extensive active shooter training in my town, we had a LOT of people involved every area ERT/SWAT sent a rep , sheriff and area PDs fire EMS , bus company , even had an FBI rep
so much of the planning is actually the after the threat is neutralized , that is largely going to be up to the first person(s) to respond.
triage , transport , reunification , traffic , and the list goes on it is a logistical hurdle everyone wants to help but knowing the plan is huge.
unfortunately it is 2024 and we have had some PD refreshers of the plan as we have a lot of new officers since 2018 but we almost need to get everyone together again and run the plan
dispatch has changed over , fire has new chief and captains , EMS has changed over , bus company is the same but a lot of drivers have changed over.
Chippewa trapper , with your parents write down your AAR your assessment of what went right and wrong and then have your parents address this with the superintendent.
they may not get a lot of feedback positive or negative that isn't just a short gripe about the inconvenience from the students , a well written assessment of what you saw , heard , and did , what you would have liked to be better , what you thought they did right.
by chance , when they moved you to the auditorium at the middle school half mile away did they have you drop all backpacks before entering or were you allowed to enter with your coats and packs?
while the move to the auditorium isn't ideal in your mind they need to secure the safety of the students as best they can , a controlled space pre-secured by LE a half mile away is not a bad thing , I would have taken it a bit further no backpacks into the auditorium and a quick search of students on the way into the auditorium
not an extensive search , but jacket off to your shirt , shake the jacket while being watched as you enter then you can put your hoodie or jacket back on.
a major concern is a bunch of students leaving in their POVs and getting in a car accident or causing other mischief around town , while police are busy working the school.
moving you to the middle school auditorium made it not a free day off school.
chances are it was a threat made by someone in the school to get a day off , if it becomes more of a Suck than just having classes it is less likely to repeat.
