can i trap pigeons with a colony trap? what other live catch traps wold work?

Look up pigeon trap. I have trapped 100's To trap a lot of pigeons you need a lot of pigeons and access to where they feed is the best place to set traps. You can bait them into an area, but that takes time. The traps I used were a three compartment trap. The two out side compartments had one way doors from the out side and the center compartment had doors from the two end compartments. Leaving live pigeons in the trap to act as decoys really helps.

Pretty easy to catch, and the traps arent hard to make yourself if you really wanted to. Some guys say you should prebait, I just go ahead and set the traps.

I make my doors like this instead of using welded wire…. Way more productive

Just saw a Facebook ad for traps made with similar doors.

The bird can walk up and use it shoulders to open the door,,, not its head.

Shop class? You do not need the frame around it. I build them so I can put then on over the counter cage traps

Had a friend whose family would keep track of nesting pigeons in barn.......take away young before feathers started and cook and eat fresh or freeze.....would say if young are removed.....parents lay 2 more eggs and repeat hatching and rearing.....did it all summer long......in expensive big city restaurants...its called squab before feathers start.....French chef Julia Child did one or 2 shows if you find video.....they never had to cage or feed .....never heard of pigion meat when full grown......sort of same principle as veal.

So if I make a pigeon trap that is about 9 inches high and decently big and put some hardened steel rod for a colony trap type deal it would work? What bait would I use?

or just go pellet gun a few at the barn and try them before you make a federal project out of it

Pigeons are extremely easy and fun to catch at night. You can net them or just pick them up, if you can reach them.

Trapping is great for getting huge numbers.

Pigeon and turtle trapping were much more profitable for me than fur trapping.

I seen a commercial pigeon trap somewhere & it had hanging rods to walk through, but the rods moved individually. Much easier for birds to walk through. Birds just have to bump into & move two or three rods

we caught them at night in roosting spots.
Sold them to dog trainers.
Also shot them for farmers around several farms.
both were great fun.

Never ate them tho.

Want some challenging fun, decoy and wingshoot them, or try to ,lol
