The weirdest food thread got me thinking. When I was a kid my dad was in the Navy. In about fourth grade or so we lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Dad was stationed in Norfolk. Anyway ton of sailors from the Phillipines. (sp) We were Chatholic (sp) so lots of baptisms, first communions, etc... Loved the food but one time a neighbor on base had taken his kid fishing and they caught nothing. Hour after they got home they asked me if I wanted to try a dish. It was fried minnow heads. Crunchy and good. Ever hear of such a thing?

I've heard of getting skunked and eating the leftover bait, but didn't think anybody actually did it! LOL laugh

In the Philippines they fish for small minnows and they are deep fried whole and crispy and served at breakfast. I eat them when ever available they are crunchy like potato chips. I bet that’s what they were recreating there I am sure.

Years ago, a friend's Filipina wife fried up some little (3-5 inch) bluegill until they were about as crispy as a potato chip. They were great, I think the sauce had something to do with it.
This same woman asked me for a coyote carcass once. I asked her what she wanted it for, she replied, "dog adobo".

They do the minnow thing in Italy too.

Seen’t an old Black lady catching bluegill off a bridge crossing the swamp in my county years ago. She was keeping bream way smaller than I’d think you could eat. Asked her why. She said she’d gut, head and scale them, fry them whole and eat bones, fins, tail and all.

My wifes uncles family is from Bari Italy, they don't even bother to cook our spearing (shiners) a salt water minnow, they wash them off, stick em in a glass of water on the table and just grab one and down the hatch,
He also eats the whole scallop instead of the muscle, raw clams, oysters, guy is like a seagull....

Filipino nurse here brings pancit occasionally and gets some "egg rolls" from a Filipino restaurant

She has gotten me to try a few other things but I drew the line at the 3/4 incubated duck egg
