For now I believe I'll hold on to the arrow head. I've nevah seen one as small and translucent as this one.
The day before we had some 50 + mile per hour winds. It very well could have been covered in sand.
I had just nelt down to put in a cat set and turned to my left to grab my hammer and I saw it.
It looked like an image. it blended in the sand so well. It's only about an 1/8 " thick.
Hard to believe it it still in one piece.

It seems odd that only an arrowhead would be found. What happened to the arrow it was attached to? Obviously wood would deteriorate before stone. However that would be dependent on climate.
Has anyone ever found an arrowhead still attached to a shaft, partial shaft?
How about metal arrowheads? Did natives learn how to use steel, etc. ?

Y'all can have the cat. That's as fine a point as I've seen, reagardless of the tip damage.

You’re in the northern high plains so possibly one of these. That is a very nice find and when you have time look that area over closer. Nice catches too.

I don't find many, but I really don't hunt for them.
In 50 years of trapping I have found maybe 20 or so.
Mostly broken or given away.

These are pretty typical of what I find.

I've personally never found a stone spear head or arrow head attached to a shaft.

I was ALMOST as exited about the arrow head as the cat.
I knew I found somthing special.
I piece of hystory that will never be duplicated.

BP I don't know for sure what the stone is it looks like the quartz I see around hear.
If it was polished smooth I believe it would be clear like glass.

Giant Sage, looks like it was knapped out of some type of agate or perhaps a chalcedony. My guess would be agate. And to answer martentrappers question there have been projectile points found still attached to arrow shafts and blades attached to wood and bone handles. Mostly in the west in dry caves. Also the post-contact Native Americans utilized steel for arrow points there referred to as trade points.
