Picked up one of these to have around in case power goes out .... And we run out of gas some how lol..and just to have to use in some of the more drafty parts of the house from time to time. Never had one that I can remember but read the instructions put it together and pretty dang easy with the lil electric start all in all. Anyhow, y'all got any tips past common sense stuff ( don't put it near highly flammable stuff , no air tight spaces ect get carbon monoxide monitors ect) for a new kerosene heater owner ? ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/12/full-34110-240898-img_20241222_193215139.jpg)

@ $5.00 + /gal. Kerosene isn't a cheap heating oil. And not readily available in bulk in most areas.

Yep. Been awhile since I have seen #1 kerosene for sale. They work. Make your house and all your clothes, and you, have an unpleasant smell.

I see tractor supply has it. 5 gallons for 55 bucks.

I dont believe they are dangerous. (with some common sense. never heard of one killing anybody) Trapping a big ranch in the NE sandhills a few years ago had a shed to stay in. Slept on my camping bed. Cooked on my coleman stove. Had a fridge/freezer. Had access to a shower. Heated the shed with one of those. Was a big shed. 24X24. No problem staying warm. There is a smell though.

a friend growing up 80s his family's had Kerosene heaters in every room of the house. they moved to WI for his dads job from TN not many other people I knew had them. they had bought a house with electric heat which was popular for a few years in the late 70s then electric prices must have gone up because no one in WI that hadn't moved from some where else wanted eclectic heat.
a bit of an oder but they worked they even had 2 fireplaces in the house but they didn't cut wood.
they would get a 55 gallon barrel of K1 and put it in the basement and fill them down there that was where most of the smell was.
I am not really sure it was ever cheap heat but it definitely costs a lot now.
not a bad choice for emergency heat but not really a good all the time heat source.
after it is out and cool cover it in a sheet to keep the dust off
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I heated an 8’ x16’ sleeper fish house for 8 years with a smaller one. There are some tricks to them. Never let it run out of fuel inside as they produce odor then. It’s best to light it outside, let it get to temperature and quit smoking and then move it inside.

Water is the enemy. WHEN it gets into the wick, you need a new wick.

We had two of the older style, the black ones with no cage, back in the early 80's that we used to help heat our drafty, old stone farmhouse. One night one of them ran out of fuel and put out a lot of soot. Everything, including me and the wife had a film on us.
I still have one of the newer types like yours. I use it to heat the fur shed at my camp, works pretty good.
Eh...wot?
