No and it leaves you the option of 2 any time you want

when it is at all a question of should I do 2 , do 2

I switched all my fox traps (1.75 Northwoods) to double stake swivels about 10-12 years ago when I started seeing coyote sign on my line.

I usually use two stakes but sometimes when the first stake takes thirty strokes to beat in and will take a pickup truck to pull I don't use the second stake. But that is the only time I use just one.

Using one won't effect performance of the swivel as long as you have the stake head below the J-hook.

I wouldn’t single stake a double stake. Unless it was a chestnut.

These would primarily be for #1 coil springs I need another swivel to be legal. As I have mentioned before, I’m getting close to retirement and have started getting stuff together to run a small trap line once I retire(25 months) I have a Amazon gift card to use up.
I did figure out that I have a small area that is out of sight and meets legal requirements to set traps on on the back of my property now I caught a raccoon and a possum last week

The butterfly type are easy to bend but that's never been and issue for me when single staking them.

If the OP is looking for an extra swivel on his # 1's to be regulation-compliant I would just go with single stake swivels.

If you have a crunch proof swivel on the end with one j hook, just add another on to the same link and there won't be so much in the way if you decide to double or single stake your setup.

I started double staking all my canine sets. Had coyote jack a few single stakes. No more.

Heres what I do. You could put a single stake swivel like this if you wanted to. I stake my coon sets with a single stake through a swivel like this though. I tie to drag chain or extension at the swivel with tie wire. A single stake swivel would do the same thing but I always double stake anything with a #3 trap, or tie off to something like a tree or drag if not double staked. All my dogproofs, 1 1/2’s and 11’s just have a regular swivel at the end of the chain.

I've not used any double stake swivels until today. I made 2 sets and used them today. They gotta be easier to retrieve than a super stake.
I have some chestnut rings I'm going to try at some point also

I use the butterfly stakes on manly coon sets and all of my canine sets. I use 1/2 inch by 18 inch rebar in one side and a 3/8 inch by 17 or so on the other side. They hold real tight. we have clay loam soils here. I welded nuts to the ends and twist them with a vice grips and they pull out easily.

That's the same set up I use Bryce except I use two 1/2" X 18" rebar with nuts welded to the top.
