After all summer and fall my sourdough startah was asleep in the freesah. With a failed atemp about a month ago now I thought it had died. I did the rye feed and babied it along and VOLA it came alive for a bake this AM. Can't wait for a slice with melted buttah on it!

It looks good to me. My wife makes a new loaf every time one is gone. We have not bought any bread in years. Here is her Christmas loaf. Beautiful loaf MJM!!! My wife was glad also that the startah worked so she wouldn't have to buy so much bread. Bread is very expensive and she said we save a lot when we were baking bread. Love the artwork on that Christmas loaf!!! Thanks for sharing it with us.

My wife was mad when they stopped having 25 and 50 lb bags of flour at the grocery store. She has always made bread, and rolls. We just finished a pan of sweet rolls this morning.

Yeah, looks good.
Yeast is cheap for me, anyway.

...stopped having 25 and 50 lb bags of flour..... 25# not available anymore. 50# I don't even remember. I can still buy plastic bags of around 12-15# in the local Mennonite run country store. "bulk" yeast too.

"bulk" yeast too. We get it from a restaurant supply service. We order it through my butcher buddy. All kinds of bulk stuff.

And.....My startah is 3 years old this month !!! Nessy, I put a little rye flour in my startah and really has made a difference in how it raises and taste. I got the tip from an old-time sourdough baker. Have you ever tried it?

My wife keeps some starter dried and in the freezer in case someone wants some shipped. She shipped some about a week ago. She often makes crackers out of the discard. Sometimes it gets fried for the chickens. She has two 5 gal buckets of rye I need to grind into flour. She adds rye at times.

We get #25 bags of Heritage flour delivered to the house. Wife bakes bread every week.
