How does your state come down on snares?

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

If you have ice make a baited snare pole, or baited platforms for footholds. I'm sure someone has gone into detail about both somewhere in the archives

Unless we're talking about water depth, try to find natural pinch points to make your castor mounds in or set on the slides they're using to access trees to cut.

Yeah talking about water depth very gradually sloping.
Like 15’ off bank it’s still 1’.

That’s the upper end. Would you just avoid that end of the lake?

Snares are good just have to be partially submerged.

Gotcha. Build a fence out of dead sticks. It's a set I use under ice with bait sticks, but you could adapt it to open water and use castor. Fence off about an 18"x 18" square, leave a side open and make your set inside the fence. You can also use rocks if the bottom isn't conducive to pushing sticks in.

You could long chain the beaver, make sure there's no entanglement for the chain and use well swiveled traps. Or use as snares.

If you do get a drop off farther out, I've made really long cable drowners for those kind of spots.

Now I'm confused, is he looking for help with sets that will work, or how to hold a beaver without it drowning or being dead in a 330?

Since hes limited to 2 330s, I would assume hes trying to figure out a way to hold beaver in shallow water

Sorry for not being clear.
Really either is helpful…type of set or how to hold.
Also we don’t have near the ice we used to.

What is long chaining?

He means having your traps anchored on a long chain like you would for most land sets, keeps them from working whatever your anchor is too hard and gives them room to move around so they're less inclined to fight the trap (wring off in the case of front foot caught beaver)

How far would you say it is before you get to waste deep water?

Gotta live up to the nickname...

We faced that situation on the Mississippi River a few years ago. Some of our coon drowners were 20 ft long to get into deep water. One beaver drowner was close to 30. We found him up on the flat bank cuz he pulled the deep end disposable stake.

Now I use snares, 10 ft extensions, check every day and they’re always alive.
