Got a question for y’all. Caught a coon this AM and I couldn’t hardly get her to look at me. She kept shielding her face. With many males, I’ve had them growling, snarling and cables pulled tight coming towards me. I’ve seen these same traits in coyotes, fox and cats as well. The males always seem way more aggressive and the females much more shy or subdued. I haven’t kept records to check my observations, but I’d be willing to bet that I can sex the animal +90% of the time before I’ve physically checked it.

Anyone else noticed this?

Not with coyote, coon, grey fox, or bobcats for me. Caught a coon last week that assumed the same pose yours had and was a big male. Kept his head down the whole time I was walking up to him up til dispatch time. Each individual critter seems to have its own personality, but I’ve sure seen my fair share of bad females as well as bad males.

I’ve found that nearly all the yotes that are aggressive are female. The males seem to cower like a beat dog, tucked tail and lying half curled.

Interesting that it's not a common trait.

With wolves the females have been the ones that snarl, bear their teeth, and even run to the end of the chain at me. Males don’t display those tendencies. They tend to behave more like a shameful dog, often avoiding with their eyes.
Wolverine seem to behave similar, between the sexes.

I’ve had just the opposite. I had a female once with a piebald sorta face who absolutely wanted to kill me. Most of the females I caught were making noise at me while the big males seemed shy and still.
Guess it depends on who the trapper is!!
Aw she is so bashful!

I have noticed the same thing in wolves. The males act almost embarrassed that they have been caught, but the females, of all species, have been the more aggressive.
The other thing I THINK I have noticed is that wolverines.........regardless of gender...........try to face away from me when I approach them. Maybe that is just my assessment of their attempt to escape
