My son won a neat little Browning 410 on a raffle. Thing is it has a 20 inch cylinder bore barrel. I don't consider it much more than a home defense gun with that barrel. Maybe birds holding really tight. I did a little poking around to see if there is a linger barrel with screw in chokes available. I'm not to good at it I guess because I came up with things not even close to barrel?? Any one here know where to check for barrel for this gun?
It's a Browning. Model BPS CF 5+1 410-3
Trying to decide if he wants to get different barrel. Maybe just sell or trade this gun in find different one.
I appreciate any help
Mac

I am going to try and avoid a novel today
new gun or used gun?
used gun shoot it and see how it patterns , I would probably still trade up for a 20 or 12 , because with the lack of availability and selection of 410 shells and him most likely finding a lot more use in another gun.
new gun you have little to no use for , see if they will give you cash value toward something else.
now if skeet is your game I can see where a light short 410 might be nice , if you reload for it , my dads neighbor did just that , skeet was his game and while I think he shot an over under short , light , with very open choke was exactly what they ran

I am going to try and avoid a novel today. I'm not sure why you're not more of a fan of the .410, I use one for everything from quail, to rabbits, to pheasants and with the TSS and other advancements in 410 ammo, I'd use it for turkey and probably waterfowl too... if I hunted them. Heck, I'd even hunt deer with them if they would allow it here and I found slugs that grouped good enough. because when I look at the ammo shelf around me , 410 is maybe 2 boxes of 8 shot and 20 boxes of 40 dollars for 5 rounds of tss. that is if they have any at all. and those 2 boxes of 8 shot are 20 bucks each. until Very recently 410 slugs were not legal in WI for deer they are not legal because of any concise decision but because they shortened the regs up to "reasonable equipment" I like my ounce and 1 1/4 loads for pheasant , I admittedly take some long shots but I make a lot of those long shots. I made my choice , bought and stocked 12ga I have a couple 20ga because they were so handy for the kids and short and light for deer. one is a smooth bore slug gun and the other mostly keeps it's rifled slug barrel and scope on these days for slug township. my 12ga used for pheasant is also short and light my xxl fingers have issues with little loading gates as well.

even midway has 52 410 options , 142 20ga options and 342 12ga options. I like boring ammo availability , I shoot 308 , 12ga , 223, 22lr and 9mm as my go to calibers , just good honest boring availability. often free to take brass. easy to find projectiles for reloading. the guy who sold us our archery equipment when I was a kid 10-16 was into oddball calibers , he was an oddball , he could not be common it went against his grain. I am special enough without needing to try at it as much as I like guns , I like shooting and hunting more than searching for ammo or holsters , did I mention I went Glock because I never wanted to fight to find a holster again either , just got wore out on anything special. I also drive a 99-07 gmc 1500 with manual locks and windows because I like boring , nothing special , functional. with large parts availability.

Guys my son has several different shotguns in both 20 and 12 ga. Has even had a couple other 410s in the past that he sold. This gun is new still has the box and it's never been fired. So he is trying to decide if he wants to keep it and play with it some. He has his eyes on I think it's a Stoger Condor over under in 20ga. Maybe trade it in against that. He already uses the 12 ga condor for his duck gun and likes it. Guess he thinking about the 20 GA for sure and even the 410 in the condor?? I really don't know he goes all over the place when starts talking about guns. I'm the one told him the Browning 410 seems like a nice little gun. Maybe think about choke tub barrel and keeping it play with. Myself I have never owned a 410 my first shotgun was a 20ga. I have reloaded for both my 12ga and 20ga guns since I was 15-16??? I have a 10 ga too but I never shot it enough to bother setting up to reload.

Mac, the BPS 410 your son won is marketed as a home defense gun. It is likely that whatever shop had the gun couldn't sell it so sold it to the folks doing the raffle. A 26 inch Invector barrel for that is going to be tough to find but nothing is impossible. I don't remember ever seeing Browing marketing the 410 as a combo gun with 2 barrels but they sure should have.
I have nothing clever to put here.

https://www.ahlmans.com/I would have these guys thread it for choke tubes and see what it will do. They did a great job on a 12 ga bbl for me. Even if its a few bucks to have it threaded its still a great deal on a new gun.

I bet at 15-20 yards its still tight tight enough for rabbits squirrels or birds.

getting the barrel threaded will run around 200 with the shipping and chokes and that was a few years ago
he should see what they will give him toward the other gun he wants
I will absolutely spend more money than the final product is worth to get exactly what I want in a shotgun , but I have to have a used for it and want it as well.
