I think if college players are getting paid NIL money then they should have to sign a contract just like the Pro players. No more opting out of bowl games or jumping ship and transferring to another team just because you get offered more money. If you want to get paid like the Pros then you need to get treated like the pros. Sign a contract then get a check. What say ye???

All of that was supposed to be the reason that nil was "needed." The problem is there's way too much money at the top, and they've allowed the monkeys at the bottom to run the zoo.

Act like a blank, get treated like a blank. Insert your own blank!

Also if you are getting all of that money then you pay for your own college=no scholarships if you get NIL money.

I make no claims of being an expert or even very knowledgeable in the subject but here's my two cents.
As I understand things, there is no one set of rules for all schools. I think the NCAA rules are set but, state rules are different. What works in one state won't be legal in another.
Athletes can't get cash money from the school but booster clubs and alumni may offer some perks.
To make a level playing field for everyone, no pun intended, would there need to be federal laws governing the program? Who would monitor or enforce the laws? Another alphabet agency?

ergo, bibamus.

Name Image and Likeness , so they can market their own brand through a sponsor.
Seems it was started in 2019, yet I remember LeBron James getting 90 million while still in high school from NIKE!
He went straight from high school to the Cleveland Cavs !
He was driving a HUMMER to school.

What do you think that has to do with anything here? He wasn’t a college player.

I been saying the same thing, at least you have to stay 2 years before you can enter the portal. Anything right now would be nice cause it's a free for all. I don't see how any coach at any school can plan from one year to the next when you have no idea what your going to have to work with. And what's not being said is kids that enter the portal and no one picks up! They just tossed a college education out the window and are back at McDonalds asking if you want frie's with that order!

No he wasn't but he was already a pro , being paid the same as NIL by NIKE ! While still in high school.
Just pointing out NIL isn't a new thing.
From what I've found NIL started in 2019 , yet as others have posted college players have been paid to play by sources under the so called table!
What's the difference?
I heard that he's a billionaire now!

You seem to be lost. Again, he has nothing to do with the conversation. He was never a college player. There’s no age limit for sponsorship and never has been. The previous rule against college players being paid and the new NIL are for NCAA athletes only.
