I know im late to the party like always, just got me a dozen to try out. What's the pro's / con's from those of you that have used them?

Plus still wondering exactly how im going to get them in those spring eye's!

Ron Marsh jhook tool works great of opening up the springs. Or you could mash a flathead screwdriver into them.

I use them a lot on fiberglass rods in runs or for castor smear sets. They can spin on the rod so you want to make sure that theres not much room for them to move to the side and knock it out of the way unless you add another stick between the stick to keep em from spinning.

I tried 4 dozen out and didn’t use them very long, like mentioned above they were easy to spin on the rod but also the rod did not always hold in the ditch bottom as well as the wooden lathe I have always used. Cool idea, just didn’t work for me

Its more the rod spinning itself that is the problem because its smooth. If you got semi hard clay bottoms the spinning goes away mostly. You could fix that by adding something to the rod to make it not spin. Kindar harder to do on the fiberglass ones but if you use rebar or smooth rod its easy to weld a spade onto them.

You could do the same thing that guys do on fiberglass snare KP's. Peen on a short section of conduit/thin metal pipe on the bottom of the fiberglass then weld a loop onto that section of conduit to prevent it from spinning when mashed in the ground

Gotta live up to the nickname...

First off, thank you very much to those that have used them or thinking about using them, we definitely appreciate it. That said, I thought I'd chime in and hopefully add some helpful information.

The spring clip xl for 220-440's were the result of customers that wanted a similar item to the standard spring clip. As you can imagine, a 110 or 160 on a standard spring clip has a whole lot less "swing" than a 330. That said, they can be used in a variety of ways with a few basic practices...
1) They will work on smooth rod or rebar - Rebar provides the best "lock" in my opinion.
2) Locking - On a larger trap, we find it best to use a "binding" method to provide a rock solid lock of the trap on the rod, unlike the regular spring clip where "gravity" will lock the trap at vertical height.
3) Spinning - It happens, there's a lot hanging out there on a single pivot point. - Simply use a cross stick to prevent this.

If you're interested, here are a few videos that may help... Again, thank you.

Thanks, wasn't going to use smooth rod, got some sticks of rebar for free i was going to make into stakes but never did, procrastination comes in handy sometimes, lol.
