I caught a possum once that all that was in the frap was a foot. It was chewed off by something, and whatever it was ate tail and all. I know because whatever ate it threw it up right beside the set! First thought a Coyote did it. Few days later heard that a cougar escaped from a compound about 3 miles away. Think maybe it was so hungry it ate it and then thought about it? lol Big birds love them

I have caught a lot of coyotes at possum remakes. Reset it and use bait at the remake. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Here, with our thick weeds/grasses it depends...IF the area is a mud ball I pull up and make a new set. If things are torn up and dry I remake. 'Possums are so low to the ground.... the trap can't CLEAN OUT...it gets clogged up with debris quickly...even with the best swivels and trap mods in the world.

Possums will step right on an exposed pan cat set. Have caught a possum like that on the first night, reset it and have a bobcat the next night.
Have caught coyotes in possum catch resets too.
Yes, I reset after a possum catch unless it is a muddy mess,

Thank you for all of the responses. I will rethink how I handle possum catches moving forward.

So much wonderful information here. Maybe someday I will join the ranks of a successful O'Possum trapper Until then Good Luck my Friends I'm so good I harvest more possum than coon. Not to brag or anything. Most of my possum are first night catches, that is how well my sets work.....

Well 2 of the possum resets yielded male coyotes this weekend so that answers that question.
