Made my first evah batch of beef Tallow.

Went to the grocery store ovah the weekend and bought about

4 lbs of beef suet..then into the crock pot..on low for 5 hour.

Then strained it through some cheese cloth. Got 1 1/2 jars of Tallow.

Any of Youns do this ????

RFK Jr inspired me...MAHA

Lots of uses in cooking for this stuff....and still learning.

What say Youns ???

Most people melt tallow down several times, let it set and scrape the bottom of the tallow off each time, until the bottom is pure white. I want to make some.

… I like to mix it with turkey 101… then eat a piece of bread and call it a beef and turkey sandwich

My daughter uses it for cooking and a lotion for dry skin .
I'll ask her what all she uses it for because she seems to make a batch every month

Like Nate, bear lard is good to cook with. If I’m around when one is killed, I’ll grab some fat and render.

We process about 10 gallon a year. Fish fried in it are amazing also works well for seasoning skillets.

I saved the pork fat from two hogs we butchered earlier in the summer. Both 300 pounds, got a good bit of fat and tried rendering a batch to male suet cakes this last weekend. It turned out great...wife is happy she has a good supply of suet cakes and im happy shes not putting me into bankruptcy purchasing all those suet cakes smile

I get ground beef fat from a butcher buddy of mine. He grinds it into plastic bags and we render a bag batch at a time. The bags are 10-20 lbs. They more then fill the crock pot. He process 300 deer a year and add beef fats to venison burger. So he always has some on hand. It is all we use cooking other then butter. The small the pieces the better it renders down. The chickens get the cracklings.

Y'all do know that body fat and tallow are two different things?
Tallow is fat from around the organs
Just saying

I make lard from pigs, never made tallow. Same process though. Some folks keep the fat from around the kidneys (suet fat) separate because it's the most neutral-flavored and tends to be harder, but I just mix it all together.

We render beef and pork fat here for all of our cooking. My wife started making some face cream from rendered deer fat plus some essential oils she added.

For some years now we’ve been using beef tallow as well as duck fat, pork leaf lard, & chicken fat but we don’t render any of it. Too easy to buy quality just down the road1/4 mile!
