Makes the best fried potatoes!
I haven't seen suet for sale around here in a looong time....what did they charge for 4 pounds? 1.39 lb...for Beef Suet So 4 pounds got me 1 & 1/2 jars. The chickens get the cracklings....in small amounts...to heat them up in this cold weather.

I went to buy some beef tallow for my bird feeders. That stuff costs as much as steak per pound! I had some venison tallow I put out, but the birds have pretty well cleaned that up. I found some suet blocks, but they have seeds in them and the squirrels wipe them out in a couple of days.
My wife wants me to wear a bracelet that belonged to her grandfather. It says, "Do Not Resuscitate".

I make beef oil whenever I trim a brisket Render coon oil for boot dressing. Pretty good patch lube for roundball black powder to. Never cooked with it but fat not trimmed off cooked coon meat is not terrible. Tastes better than deer fat to me. Never made soap. Was pretty young when I saw great gramma doing it. Thinking of trying it just for the novelty ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/01/full-320-242870-img_1376.jpeg)

When I had my outdoor wood boiler, coon fat was a great fire starter. Better than kerosene.

For some years now we’ve been using beef tallow as well as duck fat, pork leaf lard, & chicken fat but we don’t render any of it. Too easy to buy quality just down the road1/4 mile! A porterhouse done in beef tallow from the other night- "Leaf Lard" is the Cadillac of lards.Hard to get a butcher to keep it seperate anymore though.Gets mixed in with the rest.Beef tallow is what I use when I make Pemmican.
