Got home about 230 last night and the old girl didn't get up or even raise her head when I walked in. Just looking at her laying down I could see she had lost weight in the last 6 days since I had been home. When she heard me fill the water bowl she got up and walked over with a stiff leg hobble and slow tail wag.. Took them out this morning and when the old girl tried to come in her back end gave out and she went to a sitting position when she tried to walk in the two steps of the porch. I got a soft growl from her when I picked her up and brought her in the house and put her in one of her spots. It was a rushed morning with the boys orthodontist appointments.. Time to start the youngest here goes another 6900. So whan I get home it will be time to evaluate the old girl. Will it be best to put her down or let her go naturally. With here rate of decline since I was home last I am guessing she won't last a week and I'm taking my 7 off so will be home. Though it was going to happen. several months back but she pulled out of if. I do.t see that happening this time.

I hate losing a good dog. Sorry to hear it.

You surely not talking about your wife ?? Last post I read you were headed home because she was going to ER !!! HOW IS SHE DOING ????
If it's a pet Sorry for the heart ache. They brighten our days and rip out our hearts when they leave us. Na wife is OK just a kidney infection. She thinks it probably due to switching to carnivore diet 6 days ago but who knows. Antibiotics and she will be fine. Swung by and picked them up after the boys orthodontist appointments. she is geting around and seemed to be feeling a little better. I guess the meds they gave her last night started working quickly. red is big cancer tumor Yellow showing weight loose.

I had a water spaniel that had the same cancerous tumors in the same area some years ago. It was hard, but I waited until her pain seemed to be too much and took her to the vet to be humanely put down. I could never put down a dog I loved myself. I had another water spaniel who had lung cancer and I'd never seen her smoke tobacco. When she was struggling to breathe, I took her to the vet to have her put down. Prior to that I had taken her to the U of MN where her diagnoses was lung cancer.
One day you'll find someone who is obsessed with you. It's probably going to be a dog. But, it is what it is.

I had a dog looks just like that mostly black some sort of German Shepard mix , in 2021 she lost bowel function over gun deer opening weekend and the wife took her in Monday morning while I was driving back. they make great dogs whatever kind of mutt they might be. she will tell you when the time is , it is hard.

I went threw kind of the same thing with my last lab. Got the lump on breast line I think around age 8??. She was in good enough shape. I took her in to a more old school vet. He removed it all said looked really good. No more problems until age 12 and the lump came roaring back. That time she actually licked or chewed it open nasty thing. She was going down hill fast being older. So I made that awful choice that is hard to do. I know it was the right time and right thing to do I put down. Still can make a man cry.

I've been through this dilemma myself. Do I put the animal down or let it go on its own? I came to the realization I was only keeping the animal alive for my benefit and not the well-being of the pet. Letting go is hard, but you have to make the decision one way or the other.
