Anybody sold finished rats lately? I'm in southern Oregon now, but wondering what general prices might be. I haven't sold a muskrat in 45 years!
Just doing what I want now.

Did 2.83 average on a few hundred yesterday.. A pretty good collection though. 2.50 might be the number right now for most.

Thanks guys. And coondagger is right! I remember 7.50 for central Oregon rats and 9.00 nutria from the willamette valley. Spent the last 40 years in Alaska selling $80.00 average marten. Times have certainly changed, for me.

Hey Alaska! I was up the lower Long Tom today in my Jon boat. I recall you did a bit of trapping there back in the day.
My memory is one nutria was enough $$ to fill my gas tank. Hated catching beaver...just wanted nutes!
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

My memory is one nutria was enough $$ to fill my gas tank. Hated catching beaver...just wanted nutes! Those were the days! Rats, nutria, coon, and beaver were plentiful and were valuable! My trapping partner and I would pack up our gear and go over the cascades from Bend to Corvalis area and hit the Long Tom. Probably set 50 traps. We tried to do some skinning as we went, and did more in rest areas, where we actually threw down sleeping bags on the grass and camped! Nobody ever called the cops, either. We only trapped 4 days, then back to Bend, (and school, skipping Thursday, Friday, and Monday). We caught so much water fur that it took weeks to process, as we never had enough boards. Great memories.

I like catching mrats, the first critter I successfully caught more than one I have not trapped them consistently over time, as it depends on the slough water levels in the area, my motivation, and the amount of competition on public lands. I think I sold my first rats in the winter of 1985/86 and averaged about $2.25 on the carcass. I quickly learned to skin and put them up. I don't think I ever sent any to the auctions but sold to local buyers, several times mailing them. I think the most I ever got for an average (put up) was about $4.50-- our boom and busts for slough water often don't produce a lot of older "jumbo" sizes. I trapped mrats last in the fall of 2019 and sold them to a guy in NB (via mail), ending up with about a $2.20 average. Two and a quarter in 1986 bought a lot more than Two and quarter did in 2019. Thank you very much U.S. government and the Federal Reserve!! I would like to catch a mess of rats again before I die but I won't go out, even if we had water, for a Two and quarter average in 2025 or there after. If I don't catch another muskrat in my life, I won't cry about it. So it goes.

Great memories. Chuck and I often set up some trails over to them ponds on the east side of the Long Tom just below Monroe.. What we couldn't of done with a boat! (We missed our share of classes too)!

I would have been OK with that average....in 1975-6.
