So I need push pins for fur put up. Looked on line at various trapping suppliers and seems that the going rate is $8.95/100. F&T charges $11.95 for shipping for the quantity I need (200). That totals $29.85 for 200 pins shipped to my house. So I looked around and Amazon has them for $17 and change for 200 pins and w tax $19 and change shipped to my home the next day. I already drove to the only hunting/fishing store in my area that sells trapping supplies and they didn't have them. I would really prefer to buy from the trapping supply dealers but in this case I just couldn't justify it. Why bring this up. Saw that Macy's was closing more stores due to online shopping and makes me wonder if days are numbered for trapping supply dealers as well? It's easy to say "support your trapping supply houses" but that only goes so far. Money talks.

It is only going to get worse. I live 25 miles from the nearest walmart or hardware store. Fifty miles from the nearest non walmart sporting goods store. We go to walmart once a week - mainly for groceries but also for common sporting goods or hardware. Unless i need something today or tomorrow, I usually order from amazon or walmart on line. It is a rare week, between me and my wife that we dont get a couple things delivered to the house. We literally live in a cabin in the woods. Closest neighbor is 3/4 mile away.

The online stores usually have a much larger selection than do the small local brick and mortar stores. If there was a decent sporting goods store across the road from our local walmart - I would support it - even at somewhat higher prices - but a few folks who have tried a sporting goods store in the same towns with a walmart find out very quickly they can not compete price wise. The only thing they will sell in quantity is live bait - minnows and crickets - which our walmart does not sell. It is sad, but true

With amazon, you are will be paying more, almost double for the same product.

If you think back 40 years, the available options for virtually any product was much, much less. Today there are so many options that brick and mortar stores find it difficult to maintain the inventory to compete with the on-line vendors. I don't see that trend reversing.

2.25 in overall. Pin length is 0.625 in which is 5/8 and the same as what F&T pins are. Overall quality? Will see when they get here TODAY.

If you have prime shipping Is free no a huge amount of things. Or I have been told. I do t do any ordering I just tell the wife maybe send her the link and it shows up.. So .I have never ordered anything of line personally. But my wife has all that down pat and takes care of it for me. Heck even if I'm driving down the road and remember we need something she will look it up. confirm it is correct with me at the next light or stop and order it. I don't need to get any cards out she knows the #'s.

It's easy things show up fast a good prices. the down side is the same as when walking mart moved into small towns. The small local business will not survive. There is no stopping it though.

Honestly I see a time when retail locations are rare all together. You will make your order and it will be delivered to your home is the system I see taking over.

The oversized plastic ones off Amazon are TEN TIMES better than aluminum pins you can get from trapper supply houses these days!

I bet I pull the pin out on 10-15% of the aluminum ones these days on the first use!

The last sporting goods related item I purchased at Walmart was some turkey calls that were on clearance after season this past spring. I refuse to shop there unless it is absolutely the only option.

Their prices are usually as much or more than the local gun shop and selection at the gun shop is so much better.

We shop Amazon frequently, prime shipping makes it cost effective and you can't find inventory like that from any small store, plus the returns are dead easy, It costs more for gas to go to walmart and not find what I need.Speaking of Walmart, their online store is huge too, prices are often better than Amazon still with "free" shipping...

I sympathize with small dealers and mom and pops, they can't compete or get the shipping discounts the big guys get... I still order from them for specialty items but always check online first cause what I'm looking for is often there.

You can't even say you get better quality from local places, it's all crap from the same crap wholesalers. You just need to work with what you can get.

We’ve all shipped enough stuff to know that it doesn’t cost 12 bucks to ship a little box of pins. If they charged the actual amount, and used an app like pirate ship, I would order more from them.

On the other hand, they are flat rate shipping to you. If you were making a large order, including traps, the shipping tops out.

Yep. Amazon is great for single item purchases.

Amazon charges a fairly good fee for sellers, which is why the Weibe pins on trap supply sites are 8-10 bucks and on amazon theyre 17. I buy most of my stuff at conventions these days but i always try to buy multiple items when ordering from supply sites online.

Some suppliers will refund shipping costs when the estimated shipping is too high. Though it is a hassle for them.

Talking about this think back to the Sears catalog we spent time looking at when we were kids. Sears basically was what turned into online catalogs, but the CEO said we want to build more small stores all over the country, they had warehouses to ship from but went in the wrong direction. You think these MBA graduates know the future, they have made mistakes that cost millions the low dollar jobs they work.
