Word is, the Utah Division of Wildlife is upping the bounty on coyotes from $50 to $100 in certain high density deer areas. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm nervous every "wanna be" predator hunter and trapper will be out from August to April. On the other hand It will be nice to know if some do show up in your traps they will be worth at least $100 plus pelt value. I guess we'll see what happens.

I thought most states had figured that bounties don't really work very well.

When coyotes got heavy we started out at over 200 a season then down to 150 the next year the third year it went to 60,65and less the following year.Hardly a track and some are red fox returning to the area. there are still coyotes in the wooded areas here but are hard to access. my favorite to trap but hunting is my passion.

Your bobcat population should increase with fewer coyotes.

Look what SC is doing to get more hunters & trappers targeting coyotes…..$3000 would be a nice bonus.

That’s probably where I saw it.
I think it’s a good idea. Not a “bounty” which the antis hate, but sure good incentive to get trappers out there.

What is wrong with doing something the antis hate?

Most state wildlife agencies figured out a long time ago that bounties can be a drain on their agency funding sources which has influenced the results of many predator control studies.

It's all in the wording. F4WM calls it a reimbursement. "Bounties' generally don't work, but why call it something that the anti's will use as ammo to get rid of any monetary funding.

What I have a problem with is these states require a license including money to hunt/trap yotes but don't take the responsibility to control them. If they charge to trap them, and they are getting out of hand, then they should do something and never seen one state yet do much to control populations. All DNR want is money, don't spend diddly to help the problem.

Think it was Thermal hunters killing them or trappers? Seemed like when Coyotes were high there was a lot of guys just driving around at night shooting them in fields with thermals.

Is that Utah bounty for residents only?

I think anyone with a trapping license is eligible.

Another bright idea with no control about how to tell where the dog is taken, works about as well as the new lion permit just drop by the DWR office and get the permit free, say where you are going to be, then go where you want, bring the lion back for a tooth take and say where you got it in the area on the permit. PFFFT

Makes having a line out worth less with everyday driving road hunters, night hunters and no body watching what they are shooting at !

Trapping is one thing but it brings out to many shooters who most of the time don't even know how to call or take them, all ok however, what gripes me is that there is no way to tell where they come from, same thing with most calling contests.

We got no license all you want lion taking or was said that way, now it's an area thing, next will be permit and then back to limited, was supposed to go at least two years barely into one, Who is doing the actual research on any thing ??

Not a fan of bounties, just pushes the dogs around for a couple months until things settle down again, due to rules that seem to pop up after the fact !

utah does not require hunting/trapping license for cyotes as long as you have one in the state your from. bounty good for anyone as long as the coyote is taken in utah with GPS coordinates required. wyoming also has bounty in certain areas. with good snow in late febuary and march it is pretty common to take 6 to 15 coyotes a day on snowmobles but the pelts have no value that late in the year. i have also found that the money budget for those bounties runs out quick not a unlimlied cash cow lol
