Is it a 4 cycle engine?
I have a Honda WX10 that does the same thing and I haven't figured out what wrong with it either.

Change the spark plug and air filter, make sure the choke is not sticking open/closed. Look online for the basic carb idle settings. Eric

If it starts and then stops it is a carb issue. Dirty or replace carb should be good to go, in my experience.

X2

Given the nature of a very small carburetor on that engine , cleaning it out properly is very difficult to impossible. Replacement is the best.

My solo was like that. pumped gas to the carb when you pressed the primer bubble then crapped out. was a restricted fuel line

so thanks for all the advice some were close the awnser was when I cleaned out the entire carb down to the last screw and went through the jets with a wire when I put in a new diaphram I put the gasket and diaphram in backwards.
its a 2 stroke strike master
and I never get new carbs I will go through every hole and creavise before consider buying any new parts.
also has brand new mixed gas and air filters are good

again thanks for all the input

New carbs in the internet for small motors are EXTREMELY cheap to buy. I repair around one hundred small engines a year. I also fix many of them like you did. But it's so easy and cheap and fast to buy new carbs nowadays

I've had a problem with old chainsaws and snowmachines with the fuel line in the tank getting soft with age and then collapsing when under vacuum.

fuel lines are very common , get air in them and lose suction to get fuel , also fuel filter in the tank lets a ting bith through but not fast enough to let it run

for diag on small engines a squirt bottle of fuel is very handy , use mixed gas the type you put catsup or mustard or mayo in to squirt on a sandwich

give a squirt fire it up if you can keep it running by feeding it gas then it isn't drawing it's own fuel, so look for the air leak or blockage

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Friend of mine fixes small engines on stuff, he'll usually buy new replacement carbs, but on the ones he can't he puts them in a parts washer with hot fluid, says they come out better than new.

He wins.
If there were a young fellow like 06 over
here I'd hire him.

A vac pump with gauge is handy
for 2stroke workers.

I did that on a Stihl 461 once, noticed it being doggy so I pulled the carb and disassembled it for cleaning and put the rubber diaphragm backwards. Not an ice auger genius, but most of the time with the newer saws if they're acting up it's the rubber boot behind the carb having an air leak. They don't have the slack they used to, so that coupled with ethanol gas weakening the boot and looser motor mounts creates problems when guys don't know how to quit tugging on the saw when it's in a bind. I learned long ago, if I can't free it by tapping a wedge into the kerf, it's time to unbolt the powerhead and go for a hike to find my back up bar and chain

Suggest you replace your fuel line and pick up. Once your engine cranks, does it die if you change its orientation?
