will dog proofs hammer into frozen ground?

The rifle has no will of its own it may be used for evil but there are more good men than evil men and evil will be corrected by good men with rifles.

You can also just lay them on the ground, like in front of a backing, or with a small log over them.
Even hung upside down will work depending on what bait you use...

In frozen ground, I would use a stake to premake a whole for the stabilizer. Driving them straight into the ground is can have the potential of thaw and refreeze which could freeze the trap down and cause the animal not be able pull the trap out of the ground.

use a stake

you can smack a 13 dollar trap that you can bend and make unusable or you can make the hole with the stake you are about to drive any way. the stakes you can make for around a buck and your labor.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Don’t let the DP stake freeze into the ground either. A trapped coon that can’t benefit from the trap and chain swivels is not a good thing.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Don't put the stabilizer more than a couple inchs at the most into a pilot hole what it'll set loosely in. Anything more in frozen ground and you'll get bad damage to the animals due to the lack of swiveling. They have a hard time pulling traps up out of hard ground. In fact I never stabilize the traps deeper than that in any soil. An added benefit is that its harder for mice to get into as well. You may have to bring replacement traps if it's cold enough out because you'll have to thaw the foot before you can get it out of the trap.

I’ve done this anchor the trap with a looped cable around a tree and use a cordless drill to drill into tree to put do stabilizer into for your set . It’s not as desirable as rebar stakes and swiveled but it still catches coons so improvise

X2. Things will end poorly if it freezes down.

You could always just drill a hole in a block of firewood and slide the DP stake in it. The trap will come out of the wood easily and keep your DP from freezing down. Just a thought. I am not a DP guy.

I have nothing clever to put here.

This is another reason why Carlis had it figured out with the coondagger dog proof

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Traps with the Z trap or No BS style of stabilizer are by far the best in frozen ground. Use a 3/8" rebar stake to hammer in a couple inches and set the stabilizer in that hole, then use that rebar stake to anchor the trap. The slug on the stabilizer will rest on top of the hole. Bridger or Duke style stabilizers will get caught in the hole more often, even if they aren't frozen in, coons pull from the side and spin around rather than pulling them straight up out of the ground. Perhaps an angled hole would help them pull the trap free.

They will but make sure you wiggle it around to make the hole super loose so a coon can get the trap out of the ground

PETA is stupid.

I make pvc clips similar to the ones in this video by CT Trapperman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z48nueQTJeA&t=60s and use a cordless driver to screw the clips to trees and logs. One tight screw is often enough to hold the clip in place.
