What do y'all wear? Sometimes more is not always better until you walk past the level of your hip boots which I have been guilty of too many times. Be more careful or just suck it up and wear chest waders?
Thanks

I wear Hippers as much as possible for the comfort and ease of movement. Usually you pull up on your pants to sit down, with Chesters, you have to pull down for room in the knees. If water depth is unknown, Hippers are a craps shoot. I always carry a razor sharp folding knife when in Chesters so I can get them off in an emergency. Get waders with the canvas outer, they are so much more resistant to cutting and tears. Wet rubber cuts like butter. I treat them with Armour All, Inside and Out when brand new, and several times during their life, really helps them last. Store them hanging in a cool dark enviornment

Chest waders if you are setting the den entrances before freeze up.(beaver trapping)
I wear hip waders on the line in fall a fair bit mostly to keep the legs dry when walking in the wet bush or for bank or dam setting.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Look for waist high boots, called mudders in this area, by the fishing supplies The hip boots are an inch to short so it looks like you Ped your pants cry And that water is cold They look like cut down chest waders

I carry a pair of hippers in the truck, but I probably only use them one in 5 jobs. I wear knee high boots almost all the time. I did have the hippers on last job before we got a thin ice and had to put everything on pause. But the only reason I wore them was because I needed to get across the creek and knee boots would not get me across the deepest part. Usually I cross the dam, but a farmer dug the corner of the dam out and dug a 4 foot deep hole, so I had to cross upstream a ways.

Over the years, I just used hip boots less and less in my work, with most of my work done at the waters edge. When it gets deep enough that I would need chest waders, I just bring a canoe. I definitely want hip boots in the truck, just dont put them on very often. And don’t even carry chest waders anymore.
