Here is a big rat, one of the biggest I have caught. This is a regular size rat snap trap.

Certainly is. A lot of rat even for that trap. What's the bait?

Yes, what's bait? I have them in my chicken house. Best to pre bait traps for a few days so they become comfortable before setting them?

Yes pre bait for rats if at all possible. I use the green machine from wildlife control supply, I did a job next door to this place about 10 years ago had around 20 traps out. I used every bait I could find and this won out. I have used it every sense. This place is a MERF so they have constant problems. It’s good for a constant paycheck.

Here is one from the other day, I killed two just stepping on them, these were rough looking rats for sure.

What Bait? A board leaned up against the wall with enough "space" at the bottom between the wall and the leaning board, wide enough for a 110 Conibear will "TWIST" every Rat in that area. The Key is to Saturate the area with "sets". Try and set a large number of these Coni sets in the area at once. Because it won't TAKE long, and the Rats will become "wise" to the set. How about those 5-gallon "Walk the Plank" 5-gallon bucket traps with 12 inches of water in the bottom of the bucket. Self-setting. Never Stop Working?

Have you had success with the bucket set? Too cold where I'm at, water would freeze. I know that set works well for chipmunks during the summer

Most of those sets won’t work here, there is a ton of heavy equipment traffic and they don’t have time to look for traps. There is also piles of loose paper and cardboard behind stacks of baled material. I have to be picky at when I set up traps and check traps. Place makes you wear a six buck hard hat and fluorescent vest. But it pays good.

I'm kind of surprised it held that rat. Big ones like that can pull out.

I have had big ones pull out, I’m modifying some now for the bigger ones. There is a guy on YouTube that has some good modifications.

I drill a hole in the wood traps and add a cable or wire to keep them from running off with the traps. I dont do enough rat work to buy the metal ones. I have caught many up in the drop ceilings. But I look to see where they come in the building. And trap there or block them off completely. If I get tired of running back there. I tell them to bush hog the tall mess of brush near the house. I saw a whole herd of them running off when they mowed.
