It will make a poor dimensional lumber for construction. Just doesn’t have good characteristics for framing lumber including being hard to nail without splitting when dry.
Makes a nice tongue & groove , fairly popular in this country for interior paneling in cabins. Work for cabinets or furniture like end tables.
Its biggest asset as firewood is White ash can be burnt green or dry. Not a huge amount of btu at least in comparison to other hardwoods in this country. Ash makes a lot of ash in my experience.

I'm sort of surprised that mills and such can move it around so easily given that reason why the nasty Chicom bug that is killing the ash came in with crating materials. Maybe the fed and state brian trusts have figured out that the EAB only actually likes ash and almost all U.S. ash is now exposed to the vermin so why not just go at it with some sort of lumber use.
I know around here, I still see stickers on camp fire bundles that state they are either ash free or the ash has been shown to be EAB free. A lot of our camp fire bundles come over from Minnesota. There is really no lumber or other milling in South Dakota (except maybe some still in small shops in the Black Hills). Most of the cut down ash here end up as chipped compost.

Feds deregulated it, MN is still trying to control the spread but the area infested is growing rapidly. When the twin cities area first got hit in mn they made strict rules about moving it, as a result the wood dumps quit accepting it, the tree services then illegally started hauling it out of the containment zone to be rid of it. It's not a coincidence it spread rapidly along MN highways. The Death of all ash trees is inevitable at this point.

The Death of all ash trees is inevitable at this point. I know people who are treating their residential trees and a big private campground along I-90 got certified to treat their own trees. I read somewhere that people think the treatments will eventually fail but I haven't seen that yet here.

It delayed the inevitable by about 5 years.

When those trees that are being treated die from borer or whatever else that's it. Borer will not go away, once the ash trees are gone the population drops but it remains in other various woody species, unfortunately you can't treat for awhile then restore the trees, it's a bad deal. I'm hoping to retire from tree care when borer is finished here, it'll make me "rich" or dead.

Stuff is so stringy I remember trying to split it, would grab the axe often. Made very strong planks for this reason, would bend but rarely broke on trailers. Even in storms the trucks would twist but didn’t snap off like other hardwoods. Tough stuff.
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Bundles of Ash firewood or slab wood moving around or out of MN have been kilned. No bugs survived !

I find it VERY easy to split, especially when cold. You don't even need to stand the block up, just whack it with a maul on the end and it breaks easily. I love splitting Ash. It is probably the easiest wood there is to split.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I've also always found ash easy to split. The oaks are the stringy stuff in my opinion.

Ash splits easily as does Red oak , especially in the cold .
Elm , now that is some stringy stuff to work with.

The City of Denver inoculates ash trees on their property - typically along sidewalks. Each inoculated ash tree gets a yellow ribbon with the phrase “I’m a smart ash” printed on the ribbons. HAHAHAHAHAA!! I think City of Soo Foo officials took down all the street green ash unless a homeowner could prove the trees were being treated. I'm now awaiting the virus or bug that will take out all the "Autumn Blaze" maples (a variety of red maple I'm guessing) that people planted in the late '90s/early 2000s after the green ash lost their "chic" flavor (and before EAB's arrival here). Now planting some sort of oak, especially the goofy variety that has branches almost immediately out of the trunk, is the in rage residential street tree here.

Ash splits nice and straight so the Natives and Amish around here use it for making decorative baskets and trapping baskets.I have a lot on my property and just use it for fire wood.Makes great kindling.

Almost the entire interior walls of our house is done in ash tongue and grove. Our house was built in the 60s. It looks as new as the day it was installed.
