Be nice to sell a muskrat and have enough cash for a new rifle.

$1 in 1927 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $18.14 today

Let that sink in smile

Single shot .22 rifle for $2.25 sounds crazy too
Wonder what a box of shells cost? Less than
.25 I would guess

Mink were like gold back then. No wonder so many people went into mink ranching. My dad did and made good money until the market gradually dried up.

It's not always about catching fish. That's what people who don't catch fish usually say.

My Dad and his brother dogged mink when they were in their late teens and early 20's. He said if they worked they could make a dollar a day. A good male mink could bring $30. He said they would get one most days. He says there was no one working making the money they did. He talks about chopping frozen ground with a ax to dig them up.

My Dad told me the same
When he was in high school which was 1939-1943. Gas was rationed
Men worked from daylight until dark for a dollar and a good mink was $30
A month's wages!

My Dads Dad owned a country grocery store and sold gas. I would guess they had access to gas.

Coon prices were much better back then. They aren't worth skinning here now.
