To me that looks like a good soup, a stew you should be able to stand a spoon in it.

Bob, yep I do like stew to be thick. I make a roux with flour and oil from beef browning process to thicken it with.

I prefer beaver stew.

Either way, it needs to have potatoes, onion, celery, cabbage, carrots, corn, green beans and pearl barley. And absolutely needs some home canned tomatoes in there too.

Like a lot of good trapping lures, the base can turn into something greater than itself, tomatoes cooked down turn brown and don't taste like maters no mo.

Mama, and me now, always add a jar of Ketchup to beef stew. Delicious!

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Good beef stew has 4 ingredients. Beef, beef broth, potatoes and cabbage. No tomato anything, nothing else. Adding anything else is Kinda a mortal sin like putting beans in chili!

Everything the left touches it destroys

You might try adding some sage.

Rosemary goes well with beef, and no tomatoes in stew!
