First year trapping weasels for me. I've caught a few and while skinning one today I had a thought. How territorial are they? I've caught 3 in the same box in the same spot. Would putting a carcass in a box elsewhere cause a territorial response? I'm kind of hooked on the little buggers. Sure easier than skinning a stinky coyote.

A carcass with glands attached are a great attraction to other weasels. The glands are great by themselves too. Lures I've had the best success with are for the most part glands.

The skulls and glands both have value and a market as well when selling. I sold whole froze ermine last weekend for $5 Ave.

Fun to trap, easy to toss in a box in the freezer!

The adults (>1-year-olds) are territorial, but they let the juveniles trespass. An adult male will keep other adult males out. An adult will chase out other adult females.

Jack, what can you tell me about the different types getting along. The long tail getting along with the short tail and least. I see all three in my yard. I see more short tail and short tail tracks them the other too. I shot a least in the living room with a pump Crossman BB gun once. I gave it three pumps to try to keep the BB from fling around too much. I should have gave him a pass.
