had mine out when I was 8

they used to have to leave a incision about 2 1/2 inches long

now they have a couple little holes my cousin had his done as an adult in the 20 teens as an out patient procedure

my daughters had the gallbladder removed in 2021 3 little holes they hide the primary scar in the belly button.

the complication is how infected it is , mine was bad almost 40 years ago
my daughter had quite the infection and they had to do a few days of IV anti biotics first

Because he is an idiot and let it go too long, my brother had his burst. The surgery was then complicated because they basically had to pull out the intestines and clean the infection gunk off and put them back. Long recovery too.

They had to make a large cut on him so it wasn't the small cuts. I wish it could have been so now a lot more healing with this type.

Be glad they're doing it, my friend lost her daughter with 3 kids because doctors kept sending her home, until it burst and she got sepsis, My daughter was almost sent home with a bad gall bladder, luckily another passing doctor caught it and it burst while he was taking it out, That stuff is nothing to fool with, ER docs just want you out of there,.they miss stuff....

sounds like he may have gutted through the pain for a while like I did , I spent a week in the hospital back then.

when I went to the hospital it was 0400 and they had me in surgery by 0600

I could not keep anything down was in and out of it , probably near cepsis but they don't tell you a lot when you are 8 , like hey kid , trying to die here!

yup , the daughter got the gal balder out but they couldn't do the surgery they wanted to do ebcause they didn't have anyone at that hospital to perform a gal bladder removal and a bile duct inspection with contrast to make sure the duct wasn't plugged.

so after 3 days waiting for the surgery , they did it , then 2 days later we are back in the ER she is turning yellow , liver function down and sever infection.
the hospital our insurance works with was full so we did a little end run and got her moved to another hospital that could do the right surgery and contrast inspect the bile duct and fix the leaks, but to get the insurance to pay it they had to admit through the ER , the docs worked it out and she was transferred by ambulance to the hospital 35 miles away and then 3-4 days on antibiotics and no food to get the infection down enough for them to work.

I saw the bill/explanation of benefit for the first surgery came in at 64K I had to pay my deductible. I bet it cost the insurance another 100K for their attempt to save money they never even sent me the explanation of benefit on that one

Mine burst on the surface as it was removed. No infection but it was a painful recovery. No pain no gain.

Had mine out when I was 13. Had to walk bent over for awhile and could not go very far.

During a colonoscopy two and a half years ago doctors found a large mass in my wife's colon. Her appendix had turned cancerous and spread to her colon. She had robotic surgery for 7 hours and lost a foot and a half of colon/ small intestine ( I think small?). They got all the cancer and after chemo she is doing well. Maybe it's a good thing your son had it out now.

Thanks all for your responses. It looks like a longer recovery than at first thought it would be. About 40 hours now after surgery and till having problem getting up and moving. I pray for a good outcome.

glad that they could still cut it out
really sucks when they find it and then realize it is already spreading in a way they can't cut.
then it is lots of chemo to try and shrink it to maybe be able to use radiation to kill it then more chemo with little hope it ever is over , just how long can they keep quality of life decent.
