Anyone with groundhog trapping experience in midwest know why........in Ohio......I start to see chucks as soon as things starts to green up.....but cannot successfully trap any....till around july 1.....when things start to really warm up...past 20 + years....have only used cages.....affraid of using foot holds or bodygrip ....due to my medical issues.....

Not a pro trapper....only cage trap racoon, skunk, possum, groundhog taking residence in barn that refuse to pay rent

If ghogs are active they can be trapped. I have trapped them in February in cages since that is all we use.

I am. There are several products and materials that can be used to catch them in a cage trap. Just set your cages along their travel ways or near their feeding areas. The traps work best if they are relatively clean from any other past capture odors such as coon, cats opossums etc.

About now to first week or so into February, the males will venture out to inspect holes to locate females to breed. I get a few calls this time of year for them, always a male.
