In our rural area the church services are starting to be more infrequent. Many settle for a private service for the family, often at the funeral home, followed by a celebration of life at one of the local watering holes for all friends and relatives. This seems to be gaining ground and takes a lot of pressure off the family. I've been to 3-4 of these and I was very impressed, watching and listening to all the stories and great memories by those that shared.

I certainly expect that Robert Johnson’s funeral would have been quite an affair to attend.

For the half dozen funerals I’ve handled , we scheduled it so it was a one day event. Brother n law is a funeral director and he said that’s been a steady trend. For us, we have a lot of people traveling in from out of state. My wife and I just had them catered to make it simple and easy.
