Farmers got together much like the old fox hunts , and hunted them down.
IMHO A license is a way to control the dog population , you can have as many as you want, but with a license they can track a dog killing livestock.
Cats are a huge problem, people DON'T GET THEM FIXED, and let them run outside without caring if they wind up having a batch of kittens.
Next thing you know there's feral cats everywhere.
The bleeding hearts stopped euthanasia in our county.
So the county can't euthanize any pet animals. GODDARDS LAW!
So if you have stray cat problems, you can only take them to one of 3 three no kill shelters in the county.
Problem is, there's no room for any more cats!
It's a felony to kill companion animals here.
So what do you do with all the feral cats?
The bleeding hearts came up with TNR, means trap neuter and release back where it was caught.
Problem with that is , people that have those unfixed pets, don't want the extra kittens, and see one of the TNR colonies , and dump them there.
Ignorant ill responsible people cause more problems for everyone.
There's even times boxes of puppies are just dumped along a road.
IMHO That's the reason for licenses.
I caught 23 feral cats 15 years ago in a week.
Used to be the Amish , or farmers wanted a few for their barns.
NOT ANYMORE , no one wants them.
It's all part of the insane animal rights zealots agenda.
IMHO a license should be required for cats also.
TOO much government , funny it's the government that caused ill responsible people by taking away the right to discipline their children.
Pure lack of respect about everything.
I'm sick and tired of everything smelling like cat (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) , and finding their crap in my gardens!
I guess it all depends on where you live.
I know HOA's fine people for feeding cats outside around here now!
I love that idea!
Cats should be under the same laws as dogs!
All because people won't take responsibility for their pets .

So I'm confused just a touch with this^^ on a couple of points.

1. how does having a license help track down live stock killing dogs any more than a serial # on a gun stops crime. I'm clearly missing something.. probably something in the process I'm not familiar with since we don't need any license where im at. Maybe if they have a chip ot tags easier to track down the owner for damages once the dogs are caught or killed?

2. you say To much government yet advocate for exactly more government because it will require more government to license cats . SO there is to much government that messed everything up and the answer is more government? Now that will naturally require more funding and powere to enforce whatever they are doing as well.

Seems like less government would be a better solution?

If you think about what I said, I don't want more government involvement.
But because of government involvement , we have more irresponsible people because of government laws against disciplining our children.
You never have to beat a child , just give them a spanking when they're little , and they know you mean business.
Then them not wanting that again , know just by the way you look at them, not to do whatever again.
The government got it going their way, by having people disrespecting everyone and everything.
So to try to keep your property , and family safe, you start to demand more government control.
Now do you see where I was going with my post.
What are we going to do about it?
I'm open for suggestions .

We have met the enemy and the enemy is us!

Talk to your county commissioners. Campaign for the ones you like. You absolutely can influence local elections.

When I drive by a roadkilled cat I always say "nice kitty".

Dog tags differentiate pet dogs from feral dogs, though of course collars often do too. Dog tags and the records of them, make it easy to return a found dog to it's owners. Also dogs can do a lot more damage to people, livestock and other property than cats, birds, gerbils, mice, snakes, etc. can and society and the government want to know who is liable if a dog causes damage.

I recommend everyone keep a collar on their dog with their contact information. I have returned around 30 dogs to owners just by calling the phone number on it. When I and my friends ran beagles and bird dogs on public hunting land, we frequently had other dogs pack up with ours, especially the beagles.

We once had to call one guy 3 times to get his beagles, in just a few hours. Finally one of my buddies told him to take his dogs to the other side of the river, in a less than polite manner, or he wasn't getting them back.

Here’s a tale for you all
The dog warden came around once checking for licenses and I did not get one that year for whatever reason. I was in my early twenties. He asked for proof of rabies vaccination and I had that. He told me he was going to issue me a citation and I said fine. Something came in the mail but I missed it because I was on a little camping trip at Jellystone.
When I returned home there was a WARRANT for my ARREST on my door. Ended up having to pay extra fines.
Never again forgot to get a dog license. Absolute hog-bog

I can't wrap my mind around the concept of a "dog warden" with police powers like that. Unbelievable.
