How do you prevent the ice shanties from freezing to the ice, so you can't move them?
Do you fish test holes first, before putting them in place?
Do you leave them in the same place all season or move them to follow the fish?
Most Winters around here, there's not more than a few days the ice could support a shantie. Some years we don't even get ice that would support a fisherman.

You set the shack on 6x6 chunks of wood...then drill holes on all 4 corners and put a 2x4 with rope
Tied to it under the ice and tie it to the shack ..so it doesn't blow away.
Sometimes you have to jack the shack up..and add more blocks
It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.
Cost more then my house and 20 acres. To catch a fish.
It's not always about the fish. It gets used all year around. It has a bathroom and a shower so we were able to live in it for three months while we built a new house.
Always thought of thought renting an ice house for a few days or so would be a nice vacation. Anyone hear know of a good rental deal? Doesn't need to be super fancy.
I've got 3 now. 1 hub shack for when I go out with a group, 1 one-man flip over for solo trips, and just picked up a permanent drop down shack for sturgeon spearing. Just ordered a diesel heater for the permanent shack.
I have this one. (not my video) I bought it during a HOT, 100+ degree summer day so I got a great deal, I think it was < $100. It's in new condition, only been used about 3-4 times. I've had it for probably 10 years. We just don't have any fun fish to catch here, only bluegills and crappies and we get plenty of them in the spring and summer. If we had perch or northerns or more walleyes, I'd probably do a lot more ice fishing.

Most every big lake in Minnesota has a resort or outfitter that rents houses. It only depends on what you want. You can get anything from a Hub (tent) set up to a Wheal house that has running water and can be hauled down the road on its own wheels. If I were recommending a place for someone that has not done it before, I would suggest a resort on Lake of The Woods in Minnesota. One that has rooms or cabins on shore with a full restaurant and meal package. They would transport you out to fish during the day and bring you back in for the night. Meals bait and transportation included.

WOW!!! Big city wealthy people must use those services. I think they would go broke here trying to do business. Be way too costly for me.
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime
here a pic. of the outside of my shack, we put 2x4 blocks, under the runners, to keep them from freezing to the ice, the heaters are made for inside use
