Got our first rabbit hunt in at the farm this season. Ended with 25 total in right at 5.5 hours. About a 70/30 Blue tail to Cotton tail mix. Can’t wait until next Saturday.

Looks like a great hunt! What is a blue tail?

Type of swamp rabbit we have in the South. No idea the range. They literally have a bluish grey tail and their feet are different. Almost webbed a little. Usually found around swamps. They’ll often take to the water to evade the dogs and don’t always run a typical loop like you’d see with a cotton tail.

You went and got me curious. Always had them, so I’ve never really thought much about others not having them.

We have plenty of cottontails here, and the occasional rare jackrabbit. The fact the blue tail doesn't range this far explains why I've never heard of them, I reckon. They are obviously very abundant at your place!

I ran into a few of those swamp rabbits in Arkansas years ago. Never have seen them before. Usually when I was checking beaver, mink or otter sets I would jump one and it would take to the creek or levee and swim off. I said, that was a darn rabbit. They are quite large compared to the cottaintails we have in Pa.

You butcher and eat them.
